Glock Pistols have been popular for twenty years. Polymer is Corrosion resistant, tougher than steel and still 86% lighter. Glocks pistols are accurate, light, reliable and easy to operate.

However, with Sig, Baretta, S&W, and Springfield offering their own Polymer frame pistols one might wonder as to what is the better gun.

Springfield XD's are accurate, easy to shoot, less expensive (taking into account the free grear) than Glocks.

Is Glock a whole lot more than the Polymer frame? or can it be that the XD is a better gun?

i just think it's personal preference.. i prefer my XD45, due to the grip angle.. there are obvious differences, but again, it really just comes down to preference choice between the two..

It's more than just personal preference

Glock has a sort of monopoly in Polymer frame pistols. Take the Sigma for example, it is looked at as a inferior product since it is not produced by Glock. It may be true or not. However when it comes to the XD versus the Glock were talking about other companies outperforming Glock at better prices.

In my experience many Glock owners are surprised at their shooting performance on a XD. Failing to even test an XD in the past as a "Glock Lover" who needs nowhere else to turn.

Well for me the XDs are too big for concealment for me, for example XD 4" 9mm is taller than my Glock 19 by .5" and the XD SC 9mm is .25" shorter for 5 less rounds? I also agree on the patent though, but that is just how it happens. Both are great it is simply preference, if I was to do it again and had more money I would have gotten the M&P that is a sweet set up. Most comfortable to me! and I also like the Sigma especially for the money, I just didn't think it would conceal as good as needed. All are great poly guns from 350 to 600 range, unless you hit a sweet rebate then you can get it for less. (Sigma and M&P)

Having owned the XD and Glock lines of pistols it really is a matter of personal preference. The older XD's had finish issues and was the only reason I got rid of mine. Having corrected the finish issue the only advantage the Glock has over the XD in my mind is aftermarket parts. If you don't tinker with your guns and leave them stock, buy which ever one fits the best. If you like to tinker and the Glock angle works for you, then that may be a better way to go. I personally really like my Glocks and shoot them well and like the trigger on the Glock better than the XD, however it would be tough to go wrong with either platform!

I think they are equal. I like my xd because of the ergonomics. Glocks are more popular becamuse they have been around longer and the sell the to police departments for very good prices. Also the higher capacity of the xd is nice. You have a great weapon either way.

XD, Glock, and M&P are all excellent, and each has certain advantages over the others. Shoot all three, buy whichever you shoot best, and never look back. Among the three, you really can't make a bad decision.

Of course, you can add some other great offerings as well (the CZ, the BHP, etc), but for a polymer design, the big three are the big three for a reason.

personally i own both glock and sa xd. i prefer the xd, and with over 17,000rds through it and still going strong i am gonna continue to use, carry and train with it. glock makes great 9mm handguns, ie the 19 being the best IMHO and the 17 being 2nd best again IMHO.

Does anybody actually use the XD holster? The mag holders I could see. And Glock also gives you a loader device so the Free stuff is nice but...I doubt the cost of that stuff is enough to determine the desire to purchase.

Glock has become not only the name in polymer pistols but in handguns in general. Glock is always the standard other guns are measured by. Glock is the kleenex of tissues. Say XD and most non gun people would say what? Say Glock and they know what you are speaking of.

Even this thread shows that, why not XD vs other Polymer? Why not XD vs HK or Sig or M&P? Nope Glock got used.

The Glock 19/23 size guns are hard to beat for size, capacity, weight and overall usefullness, concealable but full size. And the Glock aftermarket and support product market is vast.

Walk in to a gunshow with an XD box and a Glock box and see which one gets the most attention. The "what have you got to sell question" will change to "what kind of Glock are you selling."

Every Gunshop sells Glocks, at every gunshow Glock usually has at least 1 booth dedicated to it, for parts, (never seen an XD or Sig or HK or Beretta Booth) and Glock's marketing is second to none...shirts, pens, backpacks, shooters stuff posters, waterbottles and lots more ( I know many other companies have some of this stuff to but they don't hawk it or get it out in front like Glock does).

Glock aggressivly goes after police contracts and sticks with less than popular calibers (10mm, 357 Sig and even the 45 GAP - which won't die if Glock continues to support it) 10mm fans owe Glock bigtime.

Does all this make the Glock better? Who knows, but it does make them a company who will be difficult to unseat and thus better in the business aspect of gunmaking.

Which gun is better = the indivdual shooter will have to decided. And the shooting public will determine market share.

To get a polymer frame pistol better than a Glock maybe a FN or HK but an XD never. I used to think Glocks were ugly until I shot a G17, I have shot the XD 9mm and I still thing it's ugly, maybe a good gun but it has such a high bore axis and all the ribs, vanes, serations and graphics money and marketing can buy. I would guess XD buyers are under 30, some first time buyers I would think too. The XD does have a lot more stuff in the box than when you purchase a new Glock, Glock magazines run about $19.95 and are steel lined polymer, almost indestructable. Get a Glock, the "original" tupperware gun I have 2 now. and a Springfield 1911. So where does the MP3 player go in the XD?

In regards to the price difference, you have to take into account where the handguns are made.

XDs are made in Croatia and Glocks are made in Austria.
The cost to produce things in former European com-bloc countries is less than in Western European countries.

The "free gear" that comes with the XDs are not "free".
When HS Produkt first imported the "XD" (HS2000) into the USA, they sold them for around $300. After 2-3 years, Springfield Armory stepped in, became the sole importer of the HS2000 (which they renamed the XD series) and raised the price by $250. The price increase pays for the "free gear" that comes with the XD and increases Springfield Armory's profit margin.

My $.02:

XDs have a better grip angle & better ergonomics, which makes me more accurate & comfortable with them. XDs have 3-dot sights.

Glocks have more caliber offerings, so if you're looking for a 10 mm or .357 Sig, then go with a Glock. If you're looking for a 9 mm, .40 S&W, .45 GAP, or .45 ACP, they both offer them. Glocks also have slightly smaller dimensions for the same sized gun. Glocks have a U-sight in the back and a single dot in front.

Glocks probably have more aftermarket accessories, but XDs are fast approaching that level of aftermarket stuff.

It boils down to what you want. In a common caliber pistol, shoot both and decide which one you shoot better. I wouldn't let the included accessories sway you. Both come with 2 mags, which is the key accessory. I have an XD, and I never use the OWB XD holster it came with. I prefer an MTAC or other holster.

For slow shooting, I prefer the XD. It is more comfortable to shoot than the Glock. Even being a Glock lover, you can't beat that grip angle. The trigger feels better to me to.

For fast paced combat shooting, I prefer the Glock. It's just more controllable for me.

I own a G19, I sold my XD9 because I don't do slow bullseye shooting, except occasionally when I am really focusing on shooting fundamentals. For me, controllability in a fast pace environment is more important.

the XD's look better, the Glocks have a longer positive reputation. im sure they are almost the same, i perfer the glocks for the trigger reset, but 1911's are my favorite

I love XD pistols, own two of them. The "free gear" is crap and I wish they wouldn't do it. I wouldn't use the POS "holster" even if I was right handed. The mag holder is marginally useful if you wear a 1.5" or narrower belt (I don't). I have strong enough hands to load mags without the "speed loader".

As a new gun owner that bought my first and only (so far) gun. I chose a XD. Just thought grip saftey might be nice to have. I have seen a thread like this on a lot of boards. My thoughts are I just need it to go bang when I might need it. I wanted something I could take to the range and learn how to shot on. As for the free stuff. I won't use the holster I can't carry in my state. The mag holder won't then be much help either. I have no problems loading the mags without the speed loader so I won't use any of it.

Glock is my favorite gun ever I love them all. I like the 45 long-slide XD just as much as as some Glocks.

XD guy here, grip angle and size does it for me, XD fits my hand MUCH better, points and feels more natural. I know the newer glock chambers are better in chamber support, but the XD has always had stellar chamber support.

My only thing against XDs ( I own a standard model) is the it does not come in a 9mm compact model to compete against the Glock 19.

XD: Great ergonomics, easy to shoot.
Glock 19: Best of both worlds highly concealable, just as accurate as the standard model.

If you plan to CC, get the Glock.

Yep nothing like the XD 45 just point and shoot. I have friends that shot better on the XD 45 for the first time than on the 9mm they own.
And the 19 takes the ticket for the 9mm since it has the accuracy of a full size with superb concealment ability.

This discussion reminds me of when the 1911 faithful (me included) start "discussion" which is the best 1911. In most cases they all have something to offer someone.

In the Tupperware battle they are most all good, just preference seperates them.

Also +1 on the idea that it depends on what you plan to do with your gun. Why only XD vs Glock. How about a S&W M&P or if it's for carry then a Kahr or a Kel-Tec. Better still buy them all, do the comparison and tell us which one you liked best and why. They are all fine guns. If you're going to shoot action competition like IDPA, IPSC or USPSA you're on the wrong forum.

I don't think I'd say that! There are plenty of us who do just that, right here on THR.

Personally, I've seen WAY more Glocks than xDs in competition.

Personally, I like the xD a LOT more than the Glock.

It's kind of hard to go WRONG either way.
