The "D-drill"

I was glancing through the Surefire/G&A special issue last night and noticed a description of the "D-drill" (5 rounds standing, reload, 5 rounds kneeling, 5 rounds prone, goal is all 15 rounds in 8" at 50 meters in 20 seconds). Anyone else ever heard of this?

(On second thought, considering why it's termed the "D" drill, I guess it would not have been all that widely circulated initially . . .)

Sounds like a nice drill though.

Sounds interesting. I might throw this in as a string in the next 3 gun match I design. Just to see how many people could break 20 seconds.

50 yards is close. 20 seconds for 15 shots is a piece of cake. It really comes down to the shooter's reload times and their ability to go prone quick.

Hard core 3 gunners can usually do their rifle reloads in under 2 seconds, depending on the type of gun. Really good shooters can often do it around 1, similar to a pistol reload.

A 5 shot aimed string, figure 3 seconds, and that is giving some leeway, some guys could smoke it much faster. That leaves you 11 or 10 seconds for the reloads and movement.

It is very doable, but it sounds like a good test of skill. My next match is Nov. 15th, but I've already designed the COF. The one after that is January 1st. Maybe I'll throw this one in just to see what the times are like.

I don't get it
"D" being Army slang for Delta force. Officially a bunch of civilian computer programmers and such that hang out at Fort Bragg . . .

(Read "Blackhawk Down" for more info . . . )

Ah, OK. Yea, the D-boys in BlackHawk Down. I didn't put that together. Thanks.

That is definitely no gimmie.

I have done a drill like this, but never timed it. You don't mention how it is scored. But then, who could blow a shot at 50 yards with a rifle ? :D
I have the magazine, I will have to check out the article.
