I went to Cabelas today and they had several bp revolvers out that I asked to see, including a new Walker and Howdah. (They had virtually none over the summer)
I went to the "gun gallery", where I asked to see and hold a $12,000 original Dragoon. I have to say though, it had virtually no finish on it, and the barrel was woblely. I'm not quite sure I'd pay that much, but, it was the first time I hold a 12 grand gun...

Tom...yer in St. Jo...I'm assuming you went to the cabelas in Village
West...I held that same Dragoon a week ago and noticed the 12 grand price tag....almost looked like a wall hanger to me..If I remember right..it was a 2nd model?..Ever been to James Mercantile in Liberty?..they have some BP revolvers and supplies.

I was in that very Cabelas missuramoss. Yes I did see the pocket, but I didn't ask to hold it. That was going for 2k. I do like most of the guns they have in that gallery but none are in my price range.
One thing I find interesting is that the Uberti Walker they had could not cock without your hand aiding the cylinder to turn. This was the same case with a nother Uberti Walker from another store. What's up with that? do they require some action polishing/stoning before they can work properly? or do they need to be doused in oil?
----- Oh and I have gone to James Mercantile once, nice store, but I only need to buy lubed wads at Cabelas, and everything else I can get in St. Joe for cheap.

Hmmm...Thats the store I bought my Uberti Walker from...It functioned flawlessy from day 1....Interesting though...when I bought it..they only had 1 left in the display case, and I was told by the salesman that that particular cabelas wasnt gonna sell Walkers anymore...I didnt see one when I was there last week.
Was the one yer talkin about in the bargain cave...or out in the display case??

It was in a glass display case, at the bottom, alongside the howda. It just wouldn't cock fully back. Same case with another I saw at a different store. Maybe the cylinder was dragging. I didn't mess with it much...

the price tag on that Walker at Cabelas $400 ! Say What ! :banghead:
I knew awhile back when chatting with Mr. Know It All Clerk at our Cabelas here they were going to discontinue the Walkers at Cabelas because lots of people returned them used aftter they realized that the loading lever would fall on some of them , thats why he said they were contemplating 86-ing them form thier line-up . When taking Pops into the Gun Librairy recently we checked out thier BP revolver offerings , they had four 1851 brass frame models, one steel frame 1860 and brass Buffalo model , thats it ! Way to represent supply and demand ? That scares me a little . People here are pretty lazy I guess , if you can't throw a cartridge in a gun , it doesn't sell here . You also won't find any BP guns period in our Pawnshops , i know some of the owners of them here and they just don't sell . Moral of the story , people are lazy and cheap :D ........
Tom , your flawlessly functioning right out of the box Walker will ship Monday :D
Enjoy Tom , your collection is getting large daily it appears , congrats :D ..
Not only great guns your getting , but all with Custom grips , bonus !

I hear ya Das...The cabelas here doesnt seem to intrested in BP revolvers or supplies...Their BP revolvers are wayyyy down in another aisle, prety far away from modern guns. And, their offerings are pretty slim also. Tom musta been there way before I was there..Cause they didnt have didly as far as revolvers go, let alone a Howda or another Walker. They use to have a pretty nice selection of replica Hawkens and other makes of BP rifles..but they too, are dwindling. Even their selection of round balls and powder are slim it seems lately.
They do have a ok selection of supplies I guess....if ya dont mind takin out a second mortgage on yer house to buy them...or pay the sales tax on any revolver ya buy there...ok...I'm gonna stop bitchin now...but it really does seem as though cabelas is slowly waning away from the blac powder market...at least ways here they are...

Looking forward to a range trip to shoot some of these. We don't always have enough range officers to open the pistol range, so I have volunteered to take the training so on those days I can opened that range, I'll still do a day or to a month, if there are enough on the range that day the RSO's can shoot.

Missuramoss, I was at Cabelas yesterday, that's when they had the revolvers there. It was in the summer when they had close to nothing. Aside from the Pietta standards (1851, 60, 61, 58) they had the 58 in 2 barrel lenghts in stainless.
You may want to peek in if you're around the area.
