What a hoot. I loaded this gun with 777 rifle powder about 4 months ago. I finally shot it a few day's ago. I haven't had so much fun in a coon's age.
I then loaded it with 777 pistol 40 grains and it kicked it up a notch. I was using round balls. Then I switched to lee conicals which, as I recall 222 grains. It shot pretty high (I have a higher front sight that I need to install). Seems pretty common with roa's to shoot high. I read somewhere that during the civil war the men who had pistols were told to aim for the belt buckle thus insuring a center mass hit.
Other than shooting a little high I had no problems whatsoever. Recoil was mild and you gotta love that smoke (a good breeze helps).
Loading is slow, but in a way it's good as it makes one slow down. I'll bet my blood pressure dropped when I was loading.
Cleanup wasn't bad at all. Hot soapy water, a toothbrush, rag and some ballistol did the trick. Fired it the next day and I did have one missfire (nipple may have had condensation) or wasn't seated correctely, but went boom on next try.
It's not going to replace my 1911, but when I feel like relaxing guess which one I'm going to shoot?
