Sweede, new ammo and "CLICK"

All,
I shot my Sweede today for the first time after finishing the metal and wood, bolt was never apart.....
Shot the Remington ammo just fine, then shot about 13 rounds of PMC and had 2 rounds not go off. These rounds seem to have the primmers set a little deep and the primer was not hit real hard. I have 2 weeks to deer season and would like this fixed. If someone has a link to directions on how to dissasemble the bolt w/ the short throw safety that would be great, I'd like to check for dirt and/or firing pin "stick out".

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Tony

It could be the PMC ammo. My neighbor had a 6.5 Swede in the 90s that worked fine on everything but PMC 6.5 Swede ammo. It appeared the headspace was off on the cases.

No trick to dissembling the bolt with a low scope safety.

Same as doing it with a military safety except the low scope safety won't hold the striker back for you.

You just have to catch the cocking piece on the edge of a workbench or something and pull the firing pin back while depressing the bolt lock and unscrewing the bolt sleeve out of the bolt.

Make sure that safety is not stopping the firing pin before it is all the way forward. Test protrusion with and without it.

Mauser protrusion should be .055-.060.

protrusion

That's the word I was looking for, I'll go and do some looking and report back.

Thanks much to all!

I did some measuring and dissasembly tonight, the results are in...
Protrusion w/ only firing pin in bolt- .093"
w/ FP and Cocking piece in bolt- .045"
FP & CP including safety in bolt- .020"

stock sweede I have measured for same conditions-
.120"
.097"
.050"

I can get an additional .020" just by enlarging the radious that was cut for the screw on that holds the safety on. I'll start there w/ a dremel unless someone has a better idea....

Thanks much,
Tony

The reason I suggested looking at the safety is that some low scope safeties will block the upper arm of the cocking piece. That doesn't happen with other Mausers because they have round cocking pieces that won't contact the safety.

If it looks like that screw is what is interfering, you can grind it down, but make sure you can still remove the safety if you have to.

Jim,
Thanks much for your help, I did some grinding but kept looking everything over before I did a whole lot. The safety is now just barely clearing the cocking piece. I reassembled to find I'm now around .030" I could not see what was limiting the protrusion so I looked at the stock sweede and the firing pin is longer between the end that hits the primer and the stop for the spring, the "neck" itself has some difference. When assembled w/ this FP I have .050". Can I use that one for this season w/o any worries?

Thanks again.....

Tony
