AK Handguard Wobble

I am having some issues with my lower handguard wobbling a tiny bit when mounted on the gun. I am using a wood one. It seems as if the tab at the rear that goes inside the gun, and the tab at the front that goes inside the lower handguard retainer, are a little too small so it wobbles a little. I really want it to have a tight fit.

So I'm trying to think of ways to make the tabs thicker and eliminate the wobble.

I was thinking maybe just wrap the tabs in a layer or two of duct tape, but that would look pretty god awful and I got a feeling it would melt after continuous fire maybe?

How about JB welding a thin layer of sheet metal to the tabs?

How about using some of that play-doh looking stuff that repairs wood? I could make the HG a little thicker like that too, but would that stuff hold up to the stress?

Anyone encountered this? Any ideas on a fix?

I'd just put a little bit of JB weld on the handguards, NOT the metal of the gun. What temperature is plumber's tape rated to? I know upper handguards can rattle a little. I'd assume a little rattle on the lowers can happen too.

This is an Ironwood Designs one, they tend to cost a little more than $2. Unless you have one hell of a supplier.

Nice try though!

A piece of electrical tape or gasket material? Not the most permanent solution, but workable.

Ya know, if your original post had said it was an ID hand guard, I'd have given you completely different advice.

The more info you can put into your question, the better an answer you'll receive.

Build up the handguard with epoxy like JB Weld, let it harden, then sand to fit snugly.

Glass it? Acraglass would certainly hold up, but I couldn't tell you if it would look bad or would be difficult to work.

The only AK that I've had that didn't rattle is my Arsenal SLR-106fr. It doesn't rattle at all.

+1 a bit of JB Weld or epoxy putty and file to fit once hardened.
