Well, here's my new job...

Imagine a military base with like 70 soldiers on it and a huge armoury. The armoury
is for training "combat support" (aka MERF) troops, mainly reservists for
potential war. There's no reservist training now - no budget. Only 19
reservists came in this month, they took 19 rifles and ammo (the latter - in
plastic packets). When they finished the exercises, they returned the
packets - unopened. Also, 2 FN-MAGs were issued, one of them was not fired,
the other - inspected by a visiting armourer (I am not qualified to inspect
these).
All I do all day is inspect rifles that never get fired.
I'm the only armourer on hand.:banghead: :banghead:

Don't worry about any of this right now... you've just started...
Concentrate on doing whatever you have to do as much as possible... Take the opportunity to learn everything you can about every weapon system you can get your hands on... study them in detail... soak in as much knowledge as you can...
Better yourself through this.
You could come out of this being the next LTT...

Minor problem: The officer commanding the base is rumoured to have a principle: NOBODY transfers out. EVER. And lots of people are trying.
BTW, a combat unit is stationed on base (not getting weapons from me, they use their own armoury). They do sometimes ask me for accessories - which I don't have. One of them even asked for a gun - a Galil Shorty to replace his M-16 rifle. True story.

Could be worse. You could be cleaning rifles you didn't get to help make dirty.

Maybe, once you learn some of the routine and personalities, you can be the one who makes the guns dirty. "Whatz that, this rifle feels a bit sticky when the safety is set? Needs to be test fired." "Hmm, handguard is a bit loose. I'll tighten it and then, of course, test fire it." Use you noggin to have some sort of fun, and like the man said, get experiance.
And don't ask me about support troops who don't care about being able to fight. There motto "REMF by choice, victim when the enemy chooses."

MERF? I think you mean REMF.
As armorer you should have an opportunity to learn quite a lot. Make the best of your situation.
