I have about 300 rounds of 45 acp ammo, it appears to be steel cased and the head stamp has E C 42 and E C 43. Can anyone id this ammo for. And are they reloadable.

Eau Claire Ordnance Plant, Eau Claire, WI loaded in '42 and '43. Corrosive primers. Steel cases can be reloaded, but why?

Although I did it 20 or more years ago just to see if it worked (it did), steel corrodes more readily than brass and is subject to it internally from degradng of the powder, too. You can have dangerously weakened cases with no obvious signs, and just firing them can be dicey, let alone reloading. I still have a few boxes that could be used as a last ditch defense in case El Caca flies, but only as a last resort. They're memorabilia now.

Aren't those collectable? Some WWII cartridge maniac will probably trade them for brand new ammo. Watch him dance as he runs away with his prize.
