My Service grade CMP M1 Carbine with flip slip arrived. At first was not the happiest I was getting a Inland, as I already have one, but after seeing it I was more then please. :)

Its a Mid 500,000 Inland with a 8/43 inland barrel.

It has the early Barrel band with no bayonet lug and a unmarked flip sight.

early 2 rivet hand guard, early high wood stock, early mag catch and Early bolt.

Walnut stock but no cartouches, although there is a circle P under the pistol grip in the stock. So am not sure if this a original stock or not, but the high wood cut leaves me wondering.

See Pics.

Awesome catch. Gotta love the early features. That stock alone is worth a pretty penny!

Looks nice. I keep seeing post after post of photos of nice looking CMP rifles. I have bought two and they were both total POS. I guess they don't like me.

I am through with buying CMP rifles since they apparently save the crappy ones for me.

Hopefully that will improve the wait time for the one I have on order. :D

Like many things in life the CMP is the luck of the draw. If it makes you feel any better, I lost the hair lottery.

Are there any special markings that note it being a Bavarian Police carbine?

Its marked "Bavaria Rural Police" on the top of the receiver next to the bolt.

Also i noticed the flip sight is marked with a "S".

And there is also a LGK on bottom of the trigger guard, which mean the rifle went to Austria after the Bavarian where done with it.

More info on the CMP site.

Over a 6 month period I got 3 very nice M1 Garands and a lovely Mossburg M44. Now, the Garands -were- Service Grade .. .and perhaps you were odering rack grade?

There is a service grade NPM M1 Carbine due to be delivered tomorrow. :D

What an amazing rifle. Definately needs a range report to go along with it.

Please define "crap", and "total POS", as regards your CMP purchases.
I picked my carbine out at North Store (they are about 45 minutes from my house). I didn't see one carbine there I wouldn't have wanted. The few problems I have read about have been handled quickly by CMP to the pucrhasers pleasure.
My service grade Inland has been fantastic.

You were wiser than I am. You picked yours out in person. Of course you didn't see any junkers... they were in back awaiting the arrival of my order form.

The Carbine I recently received looked as though the regiment misplaced their shovels so it was used to dig trenches... very long and deep trenches... and drive tent stakes as apparently they also could not locate that hammer. I thought, "OK, it looks horrible, but I bet it functions perfectly." (Insert sound of negative buzzer) Well, no... it ejects the cases straight back into the shooter's face. Sort of takes the fun out of shooting.

What can I say? People want to argue with me but both of the rifles I got from the CMP were disappointing. I see these photos (like the one above) of really nice looking CMP purchases but neither of mine fall into that category.

I am no longer buying guns but if I were to make a purchase I would have to buy one in person (or at the least see a photo of the actual item).

Can we see some photos of your disappointment rifles?

I have bought about 20 different CMP rifles in the last 6 years, and I've only been disappointed by one -- ironically, one that I picked from the North Store, so I am the only one that can be blamed!

It was one of the $295 Rack Grade Greeks back in '04 or so. I picked out what I thought was a very nice HRA, only to get it home and find out that it had tons of pitting in the receiver and top of the barrel which were all hidden by the wood when I initially inspected it.

I don't want to detract any further from the poster's thread.

That Bavarian Carbine looks really nice and the markings sound cool. Flyboy73, you did well. I know these were priced higher than the usual fare the CMP offers but this one looks like it was worth it.

But I still would not order one sight unseen. I am 2 for 2 in the disappointment league and don't care to try for 3 for 3.
