"Sledge Hammer!"
I loved that show as a kid! I remember his response to a jumper on a roof; shooting at the guy. And target practice in his apartment w/ his .44 mag:what: . Oh man that was a funny show. He used a M29 Smith w/ ivory grips, right?

You know, I do NOT remember this show at all
That tends to happen as one gets older. :neener:
I remember the show's existance, but I never watched it. Now, all of a sudden, I wouldn't mind catching a few episodes. :D

Hey, It's Sledge Hammer!
It used to be on ABC, right?
I used to catch that show when I was a kid. He does those IBM commericals now.
He was in so many movies and such. Forgot his name though.
Saw him in an "indie" movie recently, "Comic Book Villians"
Anyone see it? He was the guy at the pawn shop who sold one of the comic book dealers a pistol. Pistol in question was a S&W semi-auto stainless.
It did'nt exactly portray firearms in the best light, but hey, it happens.
Good movie. Good ending.

I'm probably older than Mike's daddy....
And I enjoyed that show.

I remember him shooting the roof jumper. That was funny, but there was a real case in Chicago where a guy was wading out into the lake to drown himself. One of Chicago's finest drew his gun and told the would-be suicide to "come back or I'll shoot!" The guy did.

Edit: The site listed above mentions the possibility of a DVD being released in the future, but I just noticed that some of the old episodes are still available on VHS (searched Amazon and EBay). :D

I thought I heard the creak of old joints entering the room... :)
"I'm probably older than Mike's daddy...."
Face it, Sam. You're older than EVERYBODY'S Daddy...
When God created the heavens and earth, he paused for a second around the third day and saw you...
I can just imagine His thought at seeing you...

. . . the series final episode ended with our hero attempting to disarm an atom bomb. While cutting a wire he says "Trust me, I know what I'm doing". Instant cut to a glowing mushroom cloud!
That show was great!.

It aired in mid Eighties.
Actually I believe Sledge blew himself up with the nuke in the first season. The 2nd season was titled "Sledge Hammer: The Early Years". LMAO.

David Rasch played Inspector Sledge Hammer. His idea of an interrogation was to handcuff the BG to the bumper of his car and take a couple of laps around the parking lot. He had the reputation of talking talk to his gun.
I liked the opening credits showing the gold plated revolver with a scrimshawed sledge hammer on the 'ivory' grips.

I vaguely remember that the show existed, but I never really watched it. But oh my gosh, that suit...that tie...that shirt...bringing back memories of suits and ties and shirts I used to have (though the stuff he's wearing is somewhat mild)...I was in high school in the mid to late '80s (I'm 33) so I have interesting fashon memories this pic brings back...memories best forgotten.:uhoh:

except "A Team" which was on tuesdays.. and they had Mini 14s that never hit anything.. maybe thats how that nasty rumor about mini14s got started...
seems like TV was so much better back then... or maybe i was more soft minded

Kinda wish he'd hold on to that a little more securely. It looks like his nice expensive wheelgun is going to clatter to the floor.
I don't have any recollection of the show either, but that's because I stopped paying much attention to TV in the late '70s.

That was a pretty off the wall show. If I remember correctly, they did an episode where they spoofed the "Godfather". A Mafia Don type is sitting in a chair stroking a puffed up cat. One of his underlings delivers some bad news, the Don gets a bit agitated, stands up and throws the cat out the 2nd or 3rd floor window. Totally unexpected. I still crack up thinking of that one.

That show was a hoot! Any time I hear that line..."Trust me, I know what I'm doing"...I treat it just like the line at my red neck family get-togethers...always starts with"Hey Y'all...watch this"...I RUN! :D

Sledge Hammer was played by David Rasche, and his female partner by Anne-Marie Martin (hummina-hummina! ;) ). I recall Sledge doing dry-fire (I hope it was dry-fire!) practice, opening his refrigerator door and trying to shoot out the light before it came on. :D

My favorite line from Sledge Hammer (as I remember it) was a scene where Sledge and his partner apprehend a bad guy, and suddenly about 30 uniformed cops show up.
"How'd they get here so quick?" his partner asked.
"There's a doughnut shop around the corner," Sledge replied.

My favorite scene was when they went to a domestic violence call. A wife was beating her husband. Clueless Sledge takes the the wife aside as his partner comforts the husband and gives first aid. He says to her "If it gets bad, use this." and hands her a 'pineapple' hand grenage. As they're getting in the car you hear the detonation in the house.

One episode had Sledge standing in his living room late one night, and he popped a "Virtual Shooting Range" video into his VCR. It showed a target onscreen and the audio repeated "Shoot me". Our hero shrugs, says "ok.." and blasts the 10-ring, reducing the TV to tiny bits. :D

I remember an episode where Sledge was forced to drop his pistol by a bad guy. He threw it to the ground, where it fired, shooting the bad guy's gun from his hand. No sweat. ;)

:) That used to be my signature line.
My favorite was his boss, Capt Trunk. that dude could yell and pop veins in his neck like no other.
But my favorite episode was when he lost his magnum. He was depressed, unshaven, and compeltely discombobulated. So then he finally replaced it with a POS .25 Raven or some such. He went to the shooting range with it, and when the range officer brought back Sledge's target, Sledge asked how he did. THe RO held up the target, with no holes in it, and then reached down and picked up a handful of slugs. He told Sledge, "The bullets never made it to the target!"
So he walks out of the range all dejected, and drops the .25 into his cavernous shoulder holster....:D

List to the "America vs. England (http://www.sledgehammeronline.com/soundfiles/americaversusengland.mp3)" clip at http://www.sledgehammeronline.com/soundfiles.htm
(Windows users: from the above web page, right-click on the link to save the .mp3 file for off-line listening. None of those sound clips are streaming well for me right now. It's only 500 KB, so it should only take a few seconds to download even over a dial-up connection.)
Dori (?): "You know, Hammer, in London, the cops don't carry guns, and the criminals don't carry guns. And London is a very safe city to live in."
Sledge Hammer: "Yeah, [pause], especially if you're a crook, and you've got a gun."
Considering that this was 1986 or 1987, it was very prophetic.
And "Gun Run (http://www.sledgehammeronline.com/soundfiles/gunrun.mp3)":
"Look, I'm going down to the arsenal on a gun run. Anybody want anything?"
TV Tome entry: http://tvtome.com/SledgeHammer/
Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB) entry for the show: http://imdb.com/title/tt0090525/
From the IMDB ("Trivia (http://imdb.com/title/tt0090525/trivia)" link in the left-hand column):
The producers were so convinced the show would be cancelled that they closed the first season with Sledge destroying the world. When the show received a surprise renewal, the second season was said to take place a year or so before the explosion.
and "Memorable Quotes (http://imdb.com/title/tt0090525/quotes)"
Thug: Drop your gun and kick it over here.
[Sledge puts the gun down.]
Thug: I said kick it over here.
Sledge Hammer: Forget it, Slimeball. I never kick a friend when he's down.
Here's a blurb about Anne-Marie Martin from the January 10, 1987 issue of TV guide:
http://www.phrank.com/images/sh/tvg-19870110-martin.jpg (http://www.phrank.com/sh/media/tvg-grapevine.html)
And be sure to check out the newspaper's slogan. Obviously I can't read the prop creators' minds, but it appears that they were poking fun at those who call themselves "progressive" (and we know who they are):

I loved that show!!! One of my friends from elementary school (WOW!!) was on the show, she made it a point to tell me to watch it.
Great show, great theme entrance music..
And how can you go wrong with a .44Mag sleeping next to you??

The theme was memorable, but it was clearly derived from "Peter Gunn". If you listen to them back to back they almost sound the same.
