1) Late 1990's or so.
2) Not bad considering the price.

From what I have seen and heard, they are well build and function well. I believe they used to be "baikal" arms.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, but I would probably buy an actual Remington first.

We can't help you with the price unless you know what the gun make, model, condition, caliber, where you're getting it from, and if you provide us with that information.

Is this your first time on the internet, or buying a gun? The internet is a great resource for information, however if other people are going to help you, you need to help us help you.

Try searching "Remington Spartan reviews" or something along those lines in a search engine like www.google.com.

500 seems steep, at least on principle. They're OK...not 500 dollar ok though.

2005 right after EAA lost their profitable association with Izmash.

They are very solid from all the reports circulating.

Quality control is inconsistent. Some of the Spartans were OK utility guns, but the odds that you'll get one with serious problems are higher than most guns. We never stocked them, but a bunch of customers special ordered them. We had lots of warranty returns on them. One O/U was so poorly machined that it couldn't be assembled right out of the box. Our gunsmith finally refused to work on them any more.

Caveat emptor.

Walmart had the Model 210 SXS for $299 a couple of years ago. I think $500 is a bit high for a Remington Baikal. For as 210, $300 would be high.

Check the model number and re-post. It is on the box and stamped on the gun.

I can't tell you when Remington started putting their name on Baikal shotguns but I can talk about the quality. I bought a double barrel 12 guage Baikal ($300) at least 7 years ago. The fit and finish are great, it has deep checkering and it functions flawlessly. Even though it's a double this is my skeet gun and most of my friends end up using it when I bring non gunowners to the range. This gun gets shot a lot and I've never had any problem with it. It's not unusual to put 400 rnds through it on a range day.

Paid 299 for my Spartan SPR220. It's a great shooter, but it ain't very pretty to look at. I didn't really buy it to look at, though. It's RUGGED to the max, a good reason to like it. Mine fits pretty well after I added a recoil pad. Length of pull was a might short before that.

They might not be available for a while, so if you want it, you might oughta get it. Remington dropped the Baikals and I don't think anyone's picked up the import of 'em, yet.

Remington bought the branding rights to Baikal shotguns in the early 2000s. It was a short lived deal that ended in 2009. Baikal makes good guns. Nothing fancy, but built like a tank, especially with respect to the double guns. I own an SPR 220, and have not had any failures. Moreover, it is quite attractive in a purely utilitarian way. I have heard that the single trigger version (SPR 210) is less reliable, but that is true of any selective/single trigger mechanism as opposed to the traditional double trigger set up. $500 is too high for the gun, however. I think I paid like $240 for mine (I can't remember, but it was less than $300). You can buy a brand new Stoeger Uplander for around $300. It does not have the same reputation of robustness as the Baikals, but is reported to be a good gun nonetheless. Once again, go with the two trigger version if you want to avoid trouble.

Correction; it looks like my SPR 220 cost $330 new.

I have the SPR 220 Remington Spartan 12 ga coach gun and like it a great deal. Mine has choke tubes and I use it for quail and doves as well as home defense. They are now being sold again by USSG and EEA, same company in Sharpes, FL. I am going to buy a 20 GA. Thay are an excellent gun for the money. These guns should be at distributors soon if not now.

If you want a low cost double, look for an older Ithaca branded SKB. I don't own one, but I have almost bought them a couple of times. There are several people on here that have them.
