I got in a convo with a buddy last night while working on my car. long story short, he made the comment that it was illegal for anyone with domestic violence on thier record to buy a gun. i responded by saying that i was almost sure that the only stipulation to your rights would be a felony. am i right or does he know something i dont?

He's right, any domestic violence record or even a simple boilerplate restraining order will cause the government to cease respecting your right to keep and bear arms.

The domestic violence conviction need only be a misdemeanor, and a restraining order will also preclude your buying a gun. (Pretty much what Tamara said. ;))

Hey, Jake. Angry yet? If not, keep reading. I'm sure we can find an anti-rights, anti-gun law on the books that'll do it.

Correct me if I'm wrong: doesn't the prohibition for domestic restraining orders only exist during the term of the restraining order?
In other words, once the restraining order expires, you're back in the good graces of the .gov gunwise?
