SureFire Forend Weaponlights--Loose?
Skunkabilly
November 7, 2003, 02:19 AM
Just got a unit for my Benelli M1 Super 90 with a post so and so serial number.
It rotates a skosh clock and counterclockwise when installed properly even with the extra washer...this is normal, correct?

There are two little set screws on the side that need to be tightened. Did you do that already? I've found that most people miss that step. To answer your question, it should not move around.

Had the same problem - it's the set screws. Tighten them down, and you will be good.

Guyon, not sure about the CF but I actually thought about finishing the barrel, receiver and tube gray, though!

I tightened mine. Then the plastic adjusted to it and I had to tighten it again. Eventually the plastic was pushed pretty far out and it was still loose. It's been back at Surefire for two months now... they say they're fixing it.

Yo homie... where's your sling? A long gun without a sling is like a pistol without a holster.:D

The SAS may disagree with you.

the SAS must not climb over obstacles much.

Skunk, your making me jealous. I ordered a 918FA for my 870 three weeks ago. Still haven't gotten it. Word is they're on backorder.
Grrrr....guess I'll go practice my doublehand grip with the maglite and Sig...

I bought a 918FA for my 870 a couple years ago. Surefire makes great product.

I knew if I waited someone would post about a rickety forend. My old style forend broke and Surefire sent me one of the new fancy ones to replace it. Mine rattles also.

I'm sure the SAS climbs over their fair share of obstacles. They believe in having the weapon in your hand the whole time you're on patrol or on a mission. They do make an exception for CQB.

*shrug* the SAS can do what they want. i like the ability to hang my rifle on my body instead of laying it on the ground when i have to do something like use a radio or call 911.

Weapon transition... anyone... anyone... Bueller... Bueller...
I guess the SAS just throws their long gun on the ground if they need to go to pistol.

TechBrute,
Read my last sentence. They do make an exception for CQB.
*Sigh* I guess my point was missed. That is not all long gun applications require a sling.
In fact, in certain instances they are undesireable. The SAS, the special forces group the US modeled all of its specops forces after, believes they are undesireable on patrol. The logic is a rifle in the hand is better than a rifle over the shoulder because it is ready to be used NOW. Others don't like slings on HD shotguns because they can get caught/cause noise during deployment.
As usual, the simple easier to remember mantra usually wins out. "A long gun without a sling is like a pistol without a holster." I guess it requires less thinking.

*Sigh* I guess my point was missed. That is not all long gun applications require a sling. Well, you're not very good at making your point, and besides, we're not talking about all long gun applications here, we're talking about Skunky and his tacticality. Not to mention his desire to keep said Benelli free from scratches. :D
As usual, the simple easier to remember mantra usually wins out. "A long gun without a sling is like a pistol without a holster." I guess it requires less thinking. Try to keep up here... whether it's a pistol without a holster or a LG without a sling, you have to set it down to use your hand for something other than holding your gun.
Skunky, my sincere apologies for the accidental thread hijack. My comment was simply meant as a ribbing since you didn't have EVERY accessory hanging off the nelli yet. I didn't mean for it to turn into an eye-rolling contest.

Tech, I missed your original reference regarding the sling. I actually have a Singlepoint on there for added tacticality.
As for keeping it scratch free, the Benelli is pretty dinged up. Screws from the saddle dug into the receiver and I have at least two bright silver spots, and one right under the operating handle on the starboard side. And lots of little scratches everywhere.
I finally have the PGS and 2-rd tube on it so it looks a whole lot tacticaller. I'm going to testfire it again tonight.

How did you mount the single point sling. I have a 3 point on mine, but the factory sling mount was too far back to use with the single point sling. Are you using a GGG or similar mount? I use a single point on most of my ARs, although a couple have 3 point or 2 point slings.
Edited to add: Your nelli looks pretty good to me. I've got an old-school one that's pretty beat down, and I picked up a new one last Feb, still minty.

Tech,
I apologize for missing your point. Your are correct to be ubertactical you must have a single or three point sling. :uhoh: Even the much vaunted, by me, SAS use them.
For HD I don't see a problem with setting it down, and if you are patroling in the jungles of Malaysia you of course have some fellow team members to hold your rifle. Thus allieviateing the need for a sling.
What was this topic about again?

What is that toggle-button thingie there on the slide?
Langenator
November 12, 2003, 09:34 PM
The toggle, I believe, is the constant on/off switch. Thumb-activated. There should be a fingertip-grip on switch on the far side-turns off when you relax the grip.
I may be wrong...still waiting for my 918...23 days and counting...

Setscrews, yessir :)
Feeds most of the time with fed classic, but all of the time with premium. Since I can get the stuff at Walmart easily, I'm not gonna worry about it. Take the light off for the games which are high roundcount anyway so why abuse it

Surefire makes a plug for the light socket. You unscrew the light and screw in the plug. I don't know if that'd make much of a weight difference. I use it when I'm not specifically training with the light to save the wear and tear on the bulb.

Langenator, I got my 918 in 3 days for under $200 shipped. If you decide to cancel your backordered one, call this guy first. He will meet anyones price.

In case y'all care, my SF forend had some play in it even after cranking on the set screws. I put some duct tape on the inside of the spacer on the receiver end and some on on the outside of the spacer where it goes into the forend. The forend is nice and tight now. Now I don't have to tighten the daylights out of the set screws.
If you can't duck it...

My price on the 918FA is $228 + $7 shipping.
That is the response I got from him, I don't know how you managed to pull off the light for $200 shipped!

Im going to have to go get one of those plugs for my 870 weapon light. Sounds like it might be just the trick for range practice.

January 4, 2004, 02:55 PM
Regarding those plugs, will duct tape do?
TechBrute
January 4, 2004, 03:09 PM
Duct tape would keep the ickies out whilst at the range, but for $12 street price, the plug is just less hassle.

Sorry, I missed this post. My Responder is the older 617F (not the new 617FA) but it does not exhibit any slop.
In any event, I'm glad you solved the problem. Incidentally, I seem to have stripped the setscrew threading on one side of my 617F and it will prolly have to go back to Surefire to get fixed, even though it remains rock-solid with only one setscrew.
