Anyone familiar with this custom gun done by a guy named Davis? It has a Colt Python barrel wedded to a Security Six .357 frame. Also custom trigger work and such. I have one that was given to me as a retirement present when I retired from law enforcement several years ago and know very little about it. It has a very smooth trigger action, is stainless and shoots well. I have no idea of the actual value (not that I would sell it!!) - but am curious if it is a one of a kind or are there several out there. Anyone know?

I just saw one in a pawn shop a month ago. They wanted $6-700 for it.

there are more than several out there.

it was put together by the Bill Davis Co of Sacramento CA

Bill was a ex-CHP officer who was a well-known Grand Master PPC shooter and most of what their company made were custom bull-barreled PPC revolvers.

the Couger grew out of the Smolt project. the Smolt was a Python barrel on a S&W M-19 frame...needless to say, this pre-dated the L-frame.

some customers want the same done to their Ruger Security-Six and Bill had the shop put some together. it was a great marriage because it added weight to the front...most were in the 4" barrel lenght...and added the better Colt rifling twist and choked barrel. most folks who had it done also had the action tuned at the same time.

i prefer the Couger conversion to the Smolt

The last one I was watching on GB went for $475. It had a 8" barrel. I will get one some day.

Bill made me one in 6" in the late 70's or early 80"s. It had the best trigger I've ever seen on a Ruger, almost as good as the very best S&W triggers, and I actually won a few matches with it. I sold or traded it like so many others in those days. I wish I had it back.....along with the rest of them.
