Doggone it! I miss Sportsman's Warehouse.

Did all of them go out of business? We had two here in my area of San Antonio. One went belly up a good while ago, and then the one closest to me shut its doors a few months back. :uhoh: I really liked those folks. I bought two pistols from them, and got most of my reloading stuff there. But such is life...

Here is the store locater site from their home page: http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/store_locator/
They closed all the stores in Texas.
I was in the one in Medford, OR, last week. They're starting to get a few things in after they came out of bankruptcy. I was also in the former store in Salem, OR, on Saturday, which is now called Wholesale Sports. They're in about the same boat, with lots of empty shelves, but starting to get a few things in. I also stopped in the new Dick's Sporting Goods store in Salem on Saturday, and they didn't impress me at all. No reloading supplies at all, and no handguns. Their prices on rifles and shotguns were all retail +, but not near as bad as Bass Pro Shops in Las Vegas. I was there last week, and firearms all had at least $100.00 added to the retail prices, and some were much, much more.
Hope this helps.

Otto: Me too. Especially when army surplus rifles (Like the M1) were in racks at the end of the aisle.
I bought two pistols at our Sportsman's Warehouse also. Their HQ was Salt Lake City and I believe that's still open.

Western Auto. When I was about 12 yrs old, I would ride my bicycle up there to get a couple of boxes of 22s. They would always ask, 'Is this for a pistol or rifle?' You had to answer 'rifle' since pistol ammo was restricted to 21 yrs old or older!
Back on topic, our local Sportsmans stayed open but was virtually out of ammo and reloading supplies for close to a year. They are just now starting to get a few things back in.

I was in the Sportsman's Warehouse in Grand Junction, CO last Saturday. They're starting to get more powder and bullets in, but prices were noticeably higher than when they last had any stock. The only primers they had were for shotgun. The "wall-o-handguns" is back... six months ago it was bare.

Passing through Salt Lake City one time I stopped into Sportsman's Warehouse. Wow! The guys behind the gun counter fell all over themselves trying to please me.
Got to talking "shop" with one older guy (about my age;)) who was a national trap champion shooting a European brand I can't recall right now. Anyway he asked me if I knew who sold the most guns in America? Said I didn't know. He said it was Walmart, and Sportsman's warehouse was second. :) Bankruptcy may have altered that a bit...too bad, nice folks.

When the Madison, WI, SW closed their doors about six years ago they had one heck of a going out of business sale. Spent about $500. Unfortunately, that particular store had almost zero gun stuff thanks to the liberals on the Madison city council. :cuss:
That’s probably one of the reasons they couldn‘t compete in the market place, and went out of business, and all of those workers lost their jobs, and the City no longer receives any tax revenue from those workers or the business, and sportsmen go out of town to spend their money… but I digress.
Last Gander Mountain commercial I saw they said they were the biggest firearm retailer in the US. I always figured it was Walmart, but who knows. GM closed a Madison store too. Then opened a bigger better one, 5 times the size, right outside Madison city limits. I bet they pump millions into their new home town's economy. :banghead:
But what the hell. At least we've got curb side recycling, bike paths, a huge fleet of buses no one rides, and all the unending costs that go with them. :barf:

I kinda wonder about the WalMart claim- around here most of the WalMarts no longer carry any firearms.

Second the lack of walmart firearms. Used to be that all of them had guns, now only one of the 6 around here even carry shotguns.
I was just in the only sportsmans warehouse in sc today. They had an ok selection of stuff, plenty of guns and loaded ammo. Hardly anything as far as reloading goes, not much powder, no primers, an ok lot of bullets. They did have a really good price on the M&P15.

I talked to an employee at the Round Rock, TX location when they were selling everything off. Their bank pulled the rug from under them when the economy hit the bricks. The owners didn't have time to line up new financing with the banks all holding tight onto their money. A company in Canada bought the northern locations, so everything in the south just closed the doors.
I miss them also. A suitable replacement has not been found yet. Everyone else either is more expensive or doesn't have near the selection.

Me miss Western auto also, Kelbro when I was 9 I would go in and get a box of 22 shorts for 29 cents and they could have cared less what you shot it in. Those were the days and we didn't realize it. You tell young people stories like that and they just look at you like "sure pops. It is up to us to keep it as good as it is now and maybe to improve on things for our kids and grandkids. What say ya'll. Happy Thanksgiving to all, Mac

This is why we need to support our locally owned and operated gun stores. I live in walking distance to one & don't mind paying a little extra to keep 'em in business. Besides i know they watch my back.
