I would keep getting unexplained flyers, consistently and had attributed it to my lack of skill.
Turns out that my HS Precision stock was actually touching the barrel and preventing a free float in one spot. Well have sanded it down so that the barrel is now a true free float, and a dollar bill passes cleanly to the recoil lug.
Testing tomorrow..:p

What you have done should certainly help your accuracy by insuring that your barrel is fre floating, and from my experience certainly improve it. Good luck and good shooting. :)

a dollar bill You need more clearance than $. Your not outside neck turning the Lapua 6BR brass if i remember correctly. You might want to test some brass turned and sorted by weight. Plus uniforming the flash hole. Try bench rest brass prep.

ok will sand some more..
I have turned necks a little. The Lapua brass seems fairly consistent. And have a bunch of equal wieght brass loaded up for testing tomorrow. I havent flash hole uniformed, because I do not have the tool. Lets see if it makes a difference.
edit: have sanded more, and there is about 1mm of float on all sides of the barrel to the recoil lug. Plenty of space even when rested on the front bag. So will see how it goes tomorrow, hopefully the rifle will perform better.

The 2 groups show the flyer high left. If your a right hand shooter, inconsistent cheek pressure on the stock might do that. Lapua flash holes are drilled, not punched/stamped i think, so maybe not an issue.

Lapua flash holes are drilled, I know the .220 Russian ones we make 6PPC cases from are. I could only assume others are, but do not know.

I think they are drilled as well. Per 6mmbr.com there is no real requirement to do anything to the flash holes.
The two groups are actually two different powders as well. I dont think it was cheek pressure, but will pay more attention while shooting today.

Ah well back from the range.
Had a bad day, for some reason the OAL on the cartridges I loaded was not what I thought it was, and the bullets were getting jammed into the rifiling enough to make closing the bolt difficult. In one instance after closing the bolt, i reopened it to see how much the bullet was getting jammed, and the cartridge came apart. Powder every where. Though no pressure signs in any of the loads. No flattened primers, ejector imprints etc.
Groups averaged about .3 inches center to center, and made me very aware of mistakes I was making while shooting. Essentially in a few groups, the first three bullets would go through the same hole, and then I would mess up shot 4 and 5. Very frustrating.
Anyhow cant shoot until next saturday, and now need to make sure my ammo is loaded properly.

Good shooting. We all have good days and bad days. :)

Oh, I know exactly what it feels like, trust me. Hang in there, you will surely shoot much better next Saturday.

I want to be in the zero's on a good day, and .2's consistently. If I could do .3's consistently edge to edge I would be over the moon.
I have really been bitten by the accuracy bug hard, and am now considering biting the bullet for a pure BR LV in 6 PPC. Or at the least rebarrelling my Win 70 in .222 RM to 6 PPC.

You need more clearance than $.
What would you consider adequate clearance?

What would you consider adequate clearance? i I could go measure my 40x and 600 rem. but I M lazy, will this do? Usually the clearance between barrel and stock is 0.030 for hunting stocks, and up to 0.050 for tactical and competition stocks
It would be #23 on the page. http://www.mcmfamily.com/mcmillan-stocks-faq.php Now maybe i should go mic a $ :D

I have really been bitten by the accuracy bug hard, and am now considering biting the bullet for a pure BR LV in 6 PPC.If you buy a true custom Bench gun in 6 PPC, and learn how to shoot it (And I am sure you would), it will spoil you for good. ;)

I know... and I have to convince the wife, that a bench gun is needed. Might have to give up a few to get it... :(
