Why is Hornady brass so expensive? A hundred 45 ACP cases from Starline, Winchester or Remington run about 12 bucks. Hornady... $26.39! What gives?

OK, I'm shocked.

I guess it's priced higher due to the bragging rights that some folks attach to it. I find Remington, Starline and Winchester, as well as S&B previously fired casings reload about as well as anything. I have pretty much kept away from the high priced spread partly because I'm cheap and partly because my skill level as a shooter isn't terrific - I just enjoy the sport. But it's a free market out there and if folks weren't willing to pay the price, for whatever reason, they wouldn't be selling it.

I asked a guy I consider really knowledgable about it in 45 Colt, I was setting up a new gun and wanted to do it right. I would have spent the $27 per 100 to do it too. He said it was better, but only 15-20% better and not double. He said there is no way you could recoup the added cost, and advised me to go buy some Starline for my new 45. He said it was better because of the consistency and the annealing they use that makes it last. I bought Starline.
