Lately I've been thinking a lot about cowboy logistisc as I try to consolidate my caliber footprint. The big problem with this, is that my wife (and myself to a lesser extent) prefer autoshuckers, esp 1911's. I know, I know Marlin Camp Carbine. It's certainly in my thoughts, but I want to know what options are available. I'm especially wondering if anything out there accepts (or can easily be made to accept) higher capacity magazines ie grease gun mags.

Baretta makes a good one-- SMLE converted to .45 ACP...the phantom Hi Point 4595--Thompson clone-- Mek Tech (?)..out of all of them, the Enfiled converted looks best to me, but probably pricey---

I would go for the Marlin and get a couple of buffers and powder them down in cornstarch and pack them away-- nice little shooter and my dad has taken several hogs and a couple of Yotes with his....

I did my Enfield conversion for between $400-$450, including the donor No.4. Not cheap, but worth it to me. Uses 1911 mags and ammo. It's been discussed here and on a couple of other forums.

You should check out the Mech-Tech conversion units ---- I have one in 10mm and one in .45acp ---- the .45 uses both my Colt Gold Cup frame as well as my Para-Ordnance Hi-Cap ---- do a search here for Mech Tech and you will see most people who have them find them reliable , accurate , and FUN !!!

BTW --- I have seen them used on Gunbroker etc. for under $300.
