HK P7, followed a little by my HK P2000sk V3, then slightly behind, Walther P99c/AS...

I've owned pistols and revolvers for over 50 years and these are the only ones that just seem inherently amazingly accurate right out of the box.

Just personal opinion, no offense.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

Hi Standard Citation for me.

A close second would be my S&W K Frames in general. Hard to pick one out that is more accurate than the others, so I won't even attempt it, thought a nod goes to my 2" S&W Model 15, because many are astounded that such a short barrel gun could be so accurate. My Ruger Redhawk in .44 Magnum ranks right up there with the S&W K-Frames as well.

The most accurate was an original New Model #3 S&W in 44 Russian with a 6.5 inch barrel. Sorry I sold it.

Second most accurate and one I currently own is a custom built Colt Bisley in 44 Special. Built by Dave Chicoine at Old West Gunsmith. www.oldwestgunsmith.com Colt parts gun and genuine elephant ivory grips.

If you consider the Thompson Center single shot, it would be my most accutate, with under half inch groups at 100 yards (.223).

Probably my S&W Model 14 is my most accurate handgun.
My shooting doesn't begin to do the gun justice.

If we have a class for tiny pocket pistols the Micro Desert Eagle would get high marks.
Everyone that shoots mine coments on the accuracy.

For the heck of it I shot 19 rounds at this 2x2 foot steel plate at 52 yards, standing, two hands. I aimed a little low and put two shots under the target. The little gun is capable of shooting a respectable group at 50 yards.

For me, it's the Walther P88C, followed closely by the Walther P5. For whatever reason, those two ring the bell every time out; nothing else I've tried or own comes close (though the P99 is pretty good). Not all guns fit a person's hand and eye the same, of course, which is likely the reason why you'll see such a variety of guns listed in this thread. I've tried a few of the guns that are listed here, including a Ruger Charger, and can't produce the results I do with the P88C.

Wonder why noone has mentioned Hammerli?

The one time I benched my Hammerli 208s I was able to get repeatable 1" 10 shot groups at 50 yards, outside, using CCI SV, with an Ultradot.

That same day I also tried it with my Ruger MK II SST Government Model, and was able to get 1.375" 10 shot groups.

Considering it was me doing the shooting with no magnification, I thought that was pretty good. I suspect that if I tried a bunch of good ammo to find what the pistols really like and use high power scopes I could easily cut those groups in half.

Because of their solidly mounted barrels, regular semi-auto .22 LRs are likely to have more mechanical accuracy than almost any centerfire semi with a moving barrel or a revolver. Chances are a $300 Buckmark/MK II will outshoot a $1500 custom 1911 at 50 yards. Of course there are exceptions, and this has nothing to do with whether or not you can shoot it better.

Hold My Own
November 22, 2009, 10:09 PM
The most accurate pistol I've ever fired was a civilian version of the H&K Mark 23. I have a friend of the family who works for a police department and he was able to get his hands on one.

No exaggeration. It was the most amazing pistol I've ever held. Not that I sot that well, but it can achieve 1" groups at 25 yards.

range accuracy vs field accuracy? hard to say.
i have a little colt .380 auto that my grampa gave me that i can hit with blindfolded, just because i feel his hand on my shoulder every time i present it to the target.
as far as genuine hunting-grade accuracy, i have a Ruger BH and a SBH that shoot WAY better than i do.
amazingly enough (to me) i have a pair of Heritage Arms .22lr/.22WMR combo SA revolvers in 7" and 10" barrels that are just plain uncanny accurate. what a great buy for the money!

I won't pretend to be a good enough shot to say definitively which guns were the most accurate, it's really which ones I fired the best. I didn't put them in a ransom rest, but I did put some of them across a sandbag. My Kimber Custom II did very close to 2" @ 25 yards. I can shoot my dad's old Ruger Mk I with boring regularity. I surprised myself with a 686 and a 4" Python shooting 158 gr 38s out past 50 yards once.

The best shooting I ever did that comes to mind right now, out in the woods once with my dad, we saw a pair of jackrabbits off the road past 50 yards, I drew quickly, missed once, on the second, a 230 gr HST ripped the rodent in half. Warm fuzzies. :)

Without any hesitation, my TC Contender. Pick your calibler. I have a .22, a 7mmTCU, and a .30-30 barrel for it. The .410 barrel don't count. :D This gun will out shoot many rifles, MOA accuracy. Unlike the XPs, it doen't have a rifle stock with the butt cut off and it fits in an UM's shoulder holster. A M41 Smith ain't even close. :D This thing will make one hole at 50 yards with that .22 barrel.

4" revolver....Taurus M66....1" groups .38 or .357 at 25 yards. I went through a Ruger SS, a Smith 19, and a Rossi 971 before I settled on that Taurus.

I have a Ruger P90 that can compete for accuracy with ANY make and model of .45 service gun, shoots one hole groups, but tosses the first out to make for an 1 1/2 group. Autos do that.

I have a Ruger Mk2 that shoots 1" at 50 yards benched with a 2x optic, like that one. :D

I have a Rossi 4" M511 kit gun that will put 6 rounds into a little over an inch at 25. That one's a favorite field carries.

Yadda, yadda. I like accurate firarms and while some of my carries ain't exactly MOA accurate, all are more accurate than most. For instance, I can put 5 rounds from my Kel Tec P11 into 3.5" at 25 yards. That's service gun accuracy from a pocket pistol. If it ain't accurate, I generally have no interest in it. That's why it took me some years to find the perfect 4" medium frame DA .357. I wanted it to be accurate with .357, but also .38. Not all are. I wanted the gun to outshoot my eye. I wasn't satisfied with 3" groups from that Ruger using .38 wadcutter. Fine, it shot 140 Speer .357s into an inch, I tried all manor of .38 loads and couldn't get it to do any better than 3". Not good enough for me. I wanted rabbit hunting accuracy since I saw the gun as a hiking handgun, hunting also gun, and like to take a rabbit for the pot now and then when the opportunity presents.

I can't really say. I mean, when using target handloads, all of my full sized pistols are as accurate as I am, and I don't have a fixed rest to test them for accuracy in controlled conditions.

I'd say the USP45 Tactical .45, the Glock 17L 9mm, and the PX4 .40 are all equally accurate in my hands with the right ammunition.

For me it's

1. My Colt Woodsman, built in 1938. I routinely shoot 1 3/4" 10-round at 25 yards from a modified Weaver grip. I suspect it would do a lot better from a Ransom Rest.

2. My Colt Officers Model Target, which will give the Woodsman a run for its money.

3. My Colt M357 (same as the Python, without the cosmetics.) This gun will shoot cloverleafs at 25 yards with my handloads.

4. My Kimber Custom Classic (MK I) -- a bit less accurate than the other three, but not enough to notice.

I have owned and shot several Les Baers, and a Springfield Stainless Gold Match, that were very accurate for me. I don't know which was the most accurate among them. The only one I still own is a Baer TRS, and its three-dot sight set-up made it LESS accurate for me than my other Baers, because three-dot sights hinder my shooting.

The Kimber was so finicky, that I kept it only a short while before dumping it. That purchase was one of my biggest regrets in the area of firearms acquisitions.

Or was it the fact that someone can achieve decent accuracy with a pistol that was not built for the olympics? I mean im used to people ragging on the 213 because it is chinese made, but come on. And relating to my original post, i forgot to mention that i was shooting from a bench, and groups open up to about 1.75-2.5 inch at the same distance unsupported. The most accurate gun I have fired is my Les Baer Premier II (see test target of 10 rounds @ 50 yards). But I could never approach that type of accuracy even off sandbags. The gun I have fired most accurately (single best target) offhand (for 10 rounds at 25 yards = 1.63") is my SIG P220R. Go figure. I posted in this thread a while back, like 4 years ago,* and I'm here again to change my mind. I've kind of zeroed in on 4" .38 SPL K-frames and, in particular, a no-dash S&W Model 67. This gun is an absolute wonder. I know that there are wild target pistols out there that are more accurate but I like guns that can work if needs be.

I use 4 grains of W231 behind Speer 148 gr hollowbased wadcutters. I know I can lower the powder charge for even less recoil and some more accuracy but I like to practice with my carry load. According to Hodgdon's reloading site, this load is just shy of +P so it's good for my carry piece, an old Charter Arms Undercover snubby, and my house gun, which would be, of course, a 4" K-frame.

I had Model 14s with 6" and 8 3/8" barrels, but this 67 just dusted them so I sold them. They weren't faulty but I could shoot the 67 much better. I don't know if someone slicked up the trigger before I got it but it's like teflon on ice.

Now, if I were to go semi-auto, I'd have to go with my ol' Wolverine. I haven't shot any out-of-the-box .22 semi that's been more accurate. Once I did shoot some guy's Ruger MKII that was incredible but he had dumped a ton of money into it and was shooting some very low-powered target-pop rounds. It reminded me of a pellet gun. The Wolverine shoots all full-powered ammo without issue. It seems, though, that CCI's ammo gets the best accuracy from it.

In my original post, I mentioned a Norinco 231. I still have it and it's a still a very accurate pistol. Those 231s are real sleepers. They're pretty affordable, too, usually selling for $250 or so, not bad for a good 9MM.

Dan wesson 44V shooting sierra 220FPJ/22.5 2400. Iron sights - it will hold 3 MOA 100Y from a bench - probably most of that error is me.

My marlin 60 outshoots any .22 ive tried so far.

Beretta 92 with a trigger job it tough to beat for slow fire bullseye although I cannot shoot if well when things speed up.

I shot a decked out glock 34 once that I just couldn't miss with.

Several contenders. In no particular order:

my Ruger .22/45 Mk2 with the 6 7/8" bull barrel and a good trigger job.
Ruger Blackhawk in .30 M1 Carbine
the local gun club's S&W 6" Model 14.

I can't shoot any of them to their full potential, but I've shot them well enough on good days to see their potential. (that doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean)

I'm not a great shot at longer distances but my XDM 40 makes me feel like a pro.

My Pheonix HP22 is also pretty good with the long barrel but it won't hold up to as much punishment as my XDM and it is chambered for a waaaaay weaker round.

It may just be nostalgia and me kicking my own arse for passing up a sweet deal, but a few years ago, I rented a Ruger Security Six at the range to teach a family member how to shoot. Price tag on the gun was $250, and I didn't buy it. It was a smooth and sweet shooting wheelgun, performed flawlessly through a box of .38 special.

Yeah, I kick myself monthly over passing on that deal.

THE most accurate pistol was an STI .45 acp 5" of unknown model. A guy at the range let me try it. Now I'm hooked.

THE most accurate revolver was my 2" Ruger. I could hit a head target every round at 30+ yards. Wish I could find the sob that stole it from me.

Custom revolvers that shoot 2-3 inches at 100 yards:
.475 Linebaugh, by Jack Huntington, on Freedom Arms 83
The .475 maybe the most accurate. With 420s at about 1350 fps it shoots one, .5" hole at 25 yards, and cloverleafs at 50 yards.

For flat out accuracy, it would be a toss up between a Hammerli 208 or a Walther GSP.

6 inch Python with tuned ammo and slicked up trigger. 5 out of 6 in 4 inch circle at 200 meters. Yes there was a reliable witness calling my shots with a scope, he told me if he had not been calling the shots and seen me do it he would have had no trouble calling me a liar. And no I never repeated it and am now too old and beat up to even try.

Hmmmm.... Now you've got me down to splitting hairs. My Taurus 96 (similar to S&W 17 target model) will shoot 1/2" groups at 25yds from a rest, or my Dan Wesson .357 8" will make 3/4" ragged holes at the same distance. With those two it simply comes down to .357's bullet diameter chewing a bigger hole.

None of my autopistols are that good. But I once used a rental gun at the range that gave me a case of the 'wants' - A Hk USP .45acp. For a strange rental gun shooting reloaded range ammo to group like it did was eye-opening. Ten shot one-inch ragged hole at 50', hand held from a standing Weaver position. Got a spare $800 or so???

Which is why groups are measured not from edge-to-edge, but center-to-center.

If your .22 groups are 0.5" across, subtract 0.22 inches (one bullet width) and you have a 0.28" group, center-to-center.

Similarly, if your .357 grouips are 0.75" across, subtract 0.357 and get an 0.393" center-to-center.

Freedom Arms 454 Casull with 10" barrel, SSK T'SOB Scope Mount with three Ring sets sporting a silver Leupold EER straight 4X scope. I worked up loads for that gun using a jacketed flat point bullet (300 grain Hornady comes to mind). I no longer have that gun, but never should have traded it, it was in mint condition and I could shoot small potato-size rocks all day long off the 100 yard range bench, and blow them into a ball of dust and tiny pieces. People watching me were amazed at the power and accuracy. I kick myself for getting rid of that gun, it would have been perfect for deer and black bear hunting!

I couldn't answer that, it would depend more on how I was shooting that day. I have shot very accurate guns just ok, and plain old Glocks great, on a different day it would be the opposite, I never shoot exactlly the same every time, close but not exact

Perhaps THE MOST ACCURATE handgun I've ever fired was a match grade 1911a1 that I shot with as a member of the 11th Naval District Pistol Team. It was custom built for me by the USMC Small Arms Training unit in 1967. Sadly, they wouldn't let me take it with me when I was discharged.

A very close second, is what I have on my side daily, a Springfield XD .40 S&W sub compact. That little blaster is fantastic.

My most accurate rimfire is probably my S&W Model 41. My most accurate centerfire is probably my Wichita International single shot. 30-30 that I uses for silhouette competition.
