I have a Savage 110 with scope in 30-06 that I sighted in today. Due to range and time limitations I was only able to sight it in at 25 yards with Remington 180gr corelocked ammo. It is right on the cross hairs at this distance - how much should I expect it to change with the same ammunition at 100 - 150 yards? My stepson wants to use it to hunt deer this week.

Several inches high at 100 yards, nearly dead on at 200 yards.

that would be correct if the scope was precise enough to be dead on at 25 and maintain that at longer ranges... inferior scopes (and some high end scopes) are simply not capable of this.. we arent talking irons here. any deviation left or right (whether or not perceived in the likely very few shots at such a short distance will be greatly magnified at 50, 100, and longer ranges. I would never take a shot on a deer with a gun that I was not confident with to at least 100 yards.

My starting point with a typical scoped bolt-action is to get dead-on at 25 yards. This guarantees that I'll be on the paper at 100 yards.

Most of the time, I'm within an inch of the vertical centerline of the target. It's not uncommon to be three or so inches high.

An '06 that's 3" high at 100 will be roughly a couple of inches high at 200 and probably dead-on at about 250, give or take a little. My preference is two inches high at 100, which is dead on at 200 and maybe six inches low at 300.

I've pretty much loaded with Sierras, and mostly boat-tails. I've found little difference in trajectory among the 150-, 165- and 180-grain bullets, even out at 500 yards. Surprised me, for sure.
