Nice pic ;)

While I'm on this quest of sorts for a 1911, I have a question for you. Does any one of yours "sing" to you? Is there one that is your absolute fave? If so, why? If not, why?

Hmm. Looks like you've got a 1911 or two there. :D ;)

I will tell you this:

Nine days out of ten, I tote the Pro. If there's a better "off-the-rack" 1911, I have yet to see it. :uhoh:

I have recently decided that I want to focus on collecting 1911s. Nice pictures like this help support that idea. :D

Thanks for the pics, and adding to my hopes of a nice raise (and keeping my job) next year.

Nice 1911 collection.

I see you went right from full size to compact. No Commander size?

Tamara, nice pic.

Curious about the Detonics. Always wondered why they shoved the rear sight up forward like that. Can you shed any light on this?

Thanks.

Can't really tell you WHY Detonics moved their sight up like that, but if you ever handle one (can't see it well in this photo), you'll see that they flatten the top rear of the slide and angle it down slightly, so it looks almost like a big ski jump leading up to the rear sight.

Wardog,

I'm not Tamara (good thing :) ), but can answer this question (I have had a Detonics for 20+ years). The sight was moved forward so a downward slope, angling toward the hammer, might be machined into the slide to accomodate easier cocking of the spur hammer. Someone has modified Tamara's pistol as it has not only the commander hammer, but an extended grip safety (not) as well.

Sincerely,

Michael

I'm pretty sure the guy at detonics who decided that was a good idea had no idea how a 1911 is employed.

Read (http://www.biggerhammer.net/detonics/detonics_history_patyates.html) and decide for yourself. :)

Man, that is a whole lot of Pintos! :p

...and just think, over the past two years I've sold off a P7M8, USP9C, P-228, P-232, P-226 Stainless .40, Beretta Border Marshall, and numerous Glocks to help me score more Pintos. ;) :p

I'm so tore up by this tragedy that I think I'll have to drag the Baer out in the back yard tomorrow and punch some paper to help me get over my feelings of loss. :D

Tamara, It appears you are serious about your hand gun collection. Do you have a Sig Granite series in your sites?

Not really, no, unless one just falls into my lap.

I prefer building to suit rather than buying off the rack in most cases. The only gun in that picture that is totally unaltered from its original configuration is the Springer Pro...

Well i underdtand the reasons behind the rear sight thing a little better, but i still think it's a goofy way to go about it. a 1911 is quite cockable with the sight in the normal position.

If there's a better "off-the-rack" 1911, I have yet to see it.

Probably because it is off-the-rack only in the sense that you can put it on a rack if you want to. :D

And I really think you need to get to work having that Delta Elite tarted up.

I am impressed. I am fairly new here and all I have seen, up to this point, was the Tamara line of revolvers. AND she also has a stable of 1911s! Wow.

I too have just come from a thread featuring the fine Tamara family of smitties and thought that a sight to behold; but this...

This takes my breath away.

Aside from my two smitties, my only other handgun is a Springfield Armory Ultra Compact in black oxide finish.

I HAVE however, seen fit to refinish the slide by polishing is mirror bright. I'll finish polishing the rest after I've finished enjoying the two-tone look and when it's all shiny and smooth I'll pick a finish for it.

But back to Tamara, I am impressed, yea verily.

Tamara, I see that a little " Barry White "and the proper lighting works on the multiplication of 1911's also!!! Now how about the total knife collection. Got a pic???

I want the see the rifle collection too. From what I hear that would take a series of several (many?) pictures. In fact, wouldn't that overload the capabilities of the servers here?
