I've decided I hate these 3-dot sights on my Mossberg 590a1.

Now what to do? Here's my dilemma. My barrel is PRISTINE. If I look in with a light I can literally see my reflection in it...and the chambers just as smoothe. I don't want to risk trading someone for a plain bead sighted barrel that they've beaten to hell. Mine has been pampered. Second, I don't really trust ANY gunsmiths in my area. What I'm considering doing is trying to SELL the barrel, which will be hard as anyone who own's an 18.5" 590a1 probably already has a decent barrel for it. What would you do? What is the barrel worth in this condition? It truly is immaculate and only 6 months old, maybe 300 lead rounds through it.

What don't you like about the sights?

Slow. Prefer the bead. Don't shoot a lot of slugs. Tried to get accustomed to it and I can't. A new shotgun user would be better with them. I don't want to change what works for me. I point and click.

I will always advise you to use what works for you. And you have tried to use these sights, you gave them a chance.
You can TRY to sell it on gunbroker, but if it was me, I would keep it just in case. I would look in Brownell's or Midway for replacement options, they aren't prohibitively expensive.

I called Mossberg and it's 95 for a replacement barrel. Not too bad. Problem is, I don't NEED this barrel. I am trying to sell the barrel locally, if I cannot I'll consider selling the whole gun. Don't really want to hassle with that though! But that's how much I prefer the bead. Anything else slows my natural and instinctive use of a shotgun drastically.

Honestly just buying a new barrel and keeping the old barrel in case something goes horribly wrong would probably be the easiest thing for you to do, and I can't imagine it would work out in your favor to sell the whole gun and buy another one with bead sight. I've had very bad luck with selling guns.

You're right. I have the barrel up for sale, but not holding my breath. Hoping someone needs one, if not I'm just saving for the bead sight barrel.

Frankly, Id hold on to your current barrel and just purchase another barrel sporting a front bead only. Reason being, besides the benefit of having two barrels around, should you go for longer range shooting (as with slugs) the 3 dot sight just may come in handy vs. the front bead only.
Just my 2 cents.

Why not have the sights removed and install a bead?

Good question! Two reasons A, I don't really trust any of the gunsmiths in my area enough to let them do ANY work even something that routine, and B, I think the way the barrel is there would be screwholes at the top where the rear blade is...I think at least. feels better to try and sell it or just keep it and buy the new one.

I shouldn't completely write it off. Like ghost rings, they're probably great with slugs. But honestly, I'm a buckshot guy to the fullest. Very instinctive shooter, which is why I prefer pistols and shotguns as a whole.

Will the barrel fit a regular 590? Not the A1 version. If so I might be interested in it.

I think it'll fit, but you probably have a 20" mag tube. You'd need to have your tube chopped and rethreaded which is a highly custom job. You MAY be able to order a 5-cap tube from Mossberg factory, not sure.

Yep, I would never buy a shotgun with rifle sights for the same reason. Plenty of barrels available, though. Used to could ebay barrels, was the way. Never tried Gunbroker, though I did sign up for an account there.
