I rarely see an SKS Paratrooper where I live, but a local shop has a Chinese Paratrooper in really good shape. The only thing is it has a scope mount bolted to the cover so I would probably replace that. Bayonet is present and all numbers match. They are asking $299. I know SKS prices have really gone up over the last couple of years, but I'm just curious what anyone else is seeing these guns go for. They also have two Chinese SKSs in boxes without bayonets for $325 that look like they have never been shot.

from what I have seen on the SKS over the past two years that is a little under the now going price. I have one paratrooper and have never seen them again or parts for them. I have done a little work on the one I have and is a joy to shoot. have taken top in a couple of bowling pin matches with it. again they are really fun matches.

Looks like a great price for the SKS chinese paratrooper, they go for around $400 around here. The standard model goes for about $300. I have both and would recomend you pick it up for that price if they still have it.

Is there really such a thing as a "paratrooper" SKS?

RonE:

Based on my reading at "SKSboards" over a year or more, the 'Paratrooper' term was a marketing/export tactic (gimmick).

Were certain 'Paratrooper's originally designed to only use AK mags, or were just some D or M series (the actual AK mag types) manufactured with the short barrels?

I've also read (numerous times) that the Paratrooper model was manufactured strictly for export and never used as a military rifle.
As far as the magazine question, the Paratrooper had the standard 10 round fixed box magazine. The "AK" models just happened to share the shorter (carbine) barrel. There was supposed to be a "Cowboy" model somewhere in the mix too, but I know little about that.

I've got one of each. Had a rifle (20" barrel) which I sold as I preferred the carbines.
