I'm thinking of putting a red dot or a scope on my new Smith & Wesson model 17 Classic.

What do you think is the better option? What are the better products available?

It's your gun, but I can't believe that you would even consider scoping this gun.

I have a red dot on my super redhawk and love it, but dont think I would drill and tap mounting holes in any revolver.

for speed: a Doctor optic
for precision: 2.5x LER scope

A red dot sight on a .22 handgun makes great sense, for both competition and hunting purposes.

They are fast, and make it much easier to hit accurately under "field" conditions. I prefer the Holosights, especially when hunting, both on my favorite .22LR handgun and on my S&W M29 .44 Magnum I use to hunt deer and hogs.

I have used a Burris with good effect for field use. I prefer a UltraDot for target.

Check out the Burris Fast Fire II. I have used it for one season for Steel Challange. No problems.
