Both 12 gauges. The one on the top I just got; the lower one is one I've had for years and works perfectly with target and hunting loads. I haven't shot the new one... the spring is quite a bit shorter and it seems to me like a lower/softer spring rate. Is it possible it's just worn out? The gun seems in stellar condition overall. I know they made a "magnum" spring for the 3" model (which neither of mine is)... has anyone any info about what the length should be?

thanks for any advice

Interesting. Call Numrich with the serial numbers and see what they say. Who knew Marlin used three different take-down screws on the Model 39 over the years, and that look exactly the same from the outside? Numrich knew. I was impressed.
