Springfield XD-9 Magazines

Got a friend who just ordered one of these pistols. It seems like I saw a post which tells how to make a S&W or Beretta magazine work in these pistols. I tried the search function but had two problems: a) too much information, and 2) the sites I found said the magazines can be modified but none of them mention how to accomplish it.
Can anyone give instructions or direct me to the relevant posts?
Thanks,
Coffee

I have heard about modifying Beretta 92 mags, but don't know what the process is. Word on the Web is that unmodified 10 round XD40 mags will hold 15 9mm cartridges, and feed fine in your friend's new XD9. This seems to be the route that many are taking.

Visit http://www.hs2000talk.com (http://www.hs2000talk.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi) and you'll find the modification instructions in the FAQ section.

The modification is to add a small hole in the front of most metal mags.
FYI - I have been told that this mod is legal because the mag can still be used as originally intended since the original mag release notch is still intact.

you are better off using the XD-40 magazines and adjusting the feedlips so 40S&W and 9mm work with them. most report 13-15 rnd capacity. using beretta mags are close though you can destroy the ejector or was it extractor been while since i hung out at hs2000talk its one of them. if you slam the magazines to hard you will damage the gun and require new parts. the hs2000talk.com is your best resource.

Thanks guys! I'll keep checking this post for additional input but I'll forward this thread to my friend. Sure she'll be thrilled :D .

I use the XD 40 mags in my XD 9. They work fine and hold 15 rounds. I had to tweak the feed lips ever so slightly (just a few thousandths) to get the last round to feed reliably. The best part is that I can get them locally for $22.
