I'd like to start a compendium of pistol thicknesses (perhaps as a sticky), as that information is rarely disseminated by pistol companies. I personally think thickness is one of the more improtant attributes in a CCW pistol, and it's hard to find that particular piece of information. I'd like you guys to measure your pistols and post them in this thread.

Pistols should be measured with a suitably accurate measuring device across the top grip screws, or a spot directly behind the center of the trigger. Information should list the model name, maker and caliber. I've done it in monospace text so it doesn't wrap around.

I have noticed that manufacturers of handguns specifically intended for CCW-type carry will provide width measurements (I think the widest part of slide or frame, not counting safeties, extended parts or removable grips).

If you check KelTek, Rohrbaugh, Kahr, Glock and similiar manufacturers of smaller/concealable handguns, they do provide this info on their websites because this is an important selling point for them.

I've noticed that the German(ic) companies like H&K, SigSauer and Glock provide widths while Beretta, Kimber, Colt, SA and S&W would much rather tout weight and capacity as selling points. Manufacturers of large, full-frame, military or duty type pistols perhaps do not bother because it is not a selling point for them.

Andrew, why measure at the point you suggest if that isn't the widest part of the pistol, or even the thickest part of the grip?

on both pistols, that was the thickest part. also, the trigger reach is the important part, it seems to me.
