Great shootin! I had the most fun at the range, just powdering a softball sized rock on the berm at 300yrds. Sorry your Olympic is junk, just imagine how good you could shoot a non junk AR!!:neener:

yea JD thats what i was thinking if i could get my hands on a better rifle i could really do some good shooting. all jokes aside i'm really happy with the way the rifle turned out,as far as the oylmpic being a junky rifle????????? look at that group and draw your on conclusions

Very nice Oly! I would recommend them all day long. Glad to see that there are other people that don't buy into that "Colt is the only AR crap".

you need to turn to the right a few clicks then it will bein the middle! Olympics are ok they aint the best , they fall in between a Bushmaster and a DPMS. Best is Bushmaster worst is DPMS.

did someone say oly couldn't make an accurate rifle? perhaps somewhere someone made that claim and it got lost amid the ubiquitous reliability complaints.

nice shooting so far though!
try a 5 shot group next weekend

bushy its in the middle i had the target turned sideways when i took the pic(why i'm not sure) that was actually shooting high in that group 2 clicks down fixed that the target with the group hitting high is the only one i brought home

taliv i've herd people say there not reliable also i'm wondering what breaks on them?what do i need to look out for?

000, probably nothing. if you shoot that gun like most people shoot target guns, i doubt you'll ever notice a difference. if you shoot it like a carbine in a class or tactical match, i'd probably just check the tension on the extractor. If i could move it with my fingers, i'd spend a few bucks on a BCM bolt-upgrade kit. if it's got a "5.56" chamber, i'd probably run Ned's reamer through it. If it's got a "223" chamber, i wouldn't. (and really, you'd want the 223 chamber for a bench gun). other than that, just check the carrier key to make sure it's staked on nice.

as to parts that "break", their CH are prone to bending when abused (which is inevitable when folks get excited), but that's unlikely to happen on a bench gun. and the bolts won't last as long as a quality one, but since you're likely firing around 1 shot/minute or so, not heating the gun up with mag-dumps... your bolt will prob last forever.

the only area i can think of where match guns see more stress is the bolt-catch. not saying yours is likely to break, but think about it. i go out and put 300 rnds through my carbine in a day... that's 10 mags, which means the bolt slams into the bolt catch 10 times. i go shoot my rifle in a 3x600 yrd prone mid-range match... that's 60 rounds, loaded one-at-a-time, which means the bolt slams into the bolt catch 60 times. though i have not heard of this happening with AR15s, I know broken bolt-catches were common in some AR10-variants.

edit: also, just look at all the parts that contact and watch for wear. a lot of wear in the first few hundred rounds is a good indication the parts may not have been properly heat-treated.

neds reamer? i'm not familiar with that tool how does it work what does it do? my barrel is marked 556 the lower is stamped caliber multi so i'm guessing its a 556. i will most deff get that bolt upgrade you mentioned where will i find that upgrade?midway?brownells?
i was not happy with the way the carrier key was staked from the factory so i fixed that first thing(before a round was ever fired in it) i like preventive maintenance
thanks taliv for giving me some facts and not the normal it sucks lol

btw, i've been meaning to do a varmint build like that for a long time and have just never gotten around to it. none of my AR15s have an optic with more than 1-6x on it.

i'd really like to do something like this:
1-14 twist 20" bull barrel (maybe not really bull, just heavy) chambered for 45-55g
billet upper/lower (something with some schnazz to it... like seekins)
DD lite rail rifle-length
fixed stock of some sort, maybe magpul PRS

but every time i think about doing that... it just makes me want an AR chambered in 220swift :)

edit: go here for info http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=6474 (though you might also be able to get it from brownells)

Remove the extractor from the bolt. Run your finger over the edge that grabs the case rim. If it feels sharp and 'bites' your finger, get the $5 spring upgrade kit. if it feels smooth like butter, consider the $30 bolt rebuild kit. or for $70, a whole spare bolt.

Very cool. If you don't mind, how much did it run you without optics?

Nice shooting BTW.

mine has a 1/9 twist and it shot that group you seen @300yds with 52gr hornady target match h.p. b.t./i choose the 1/9 because if i want to go much past 300yds a 69gr bullet is a must .right now i can't because no range around here goes past 300yds but if i find one i'd love to give 400 and 500yds a go with some 69gr sierra bullets....infact since i'm improving as a shooter i might be able to justify a 6mm target bolt gun!!!!!!!

TIM $1050 no optics
