I have one, it is a hanger. Extenally perfect; the bore looks like a russian sewer pipe. Shotgun sized...Unm.....patterns at 100yds. Minut of Anglo though, I suppose. Now I see what they mean by peasants rifle.

Actually, my 1936 Tula is quite accurate...And very attractive, IMO.

Frenchy......... does it come with a bayonet and if so does the s/n match? I'm seriously considering getting into Mosins. Also where did you buy yours from?

Thanks,

John

It is a mdl. 91/30 and all numbers match...Including the bayo.
I traded for this one at a local gunshop in my area. These are the same ones that are being offered by AIM, SOG and others for about $70 or there abouts.
The re-arsenaled shellac finish and metal bluing is just about 100%. The bore is dark but very strong with no pitting. The hexagonal "Tula" receiver is a plus.

Strangely enough, my mismatched, $40 M-44 is very acurrate. The Arsenal Ref. 91 looks great but sucks otherwise. BE CAREFUL.

Buy an M-39.
They cost twice as much as a Russian 91/30, but they are worth it.

Frenchy; I was talking about the one I own. That's why I think that:D All the 91-30's Ive seen that have been arsenal refinished have pretty dark bores however. Many of the un-rearsenaled ones I have seen have been much better. I wouldnt get to caught up in the arsenal refinshed stuff. I bought mine to hang, and got what I paid for. If I wanted a shooter, I'd go for a gunshop/show gun, un-refinished, that had been takin care of. The Fins are really nice guns, and man do they shoot.;)

I must disagree about the refurbs.I have bought 5 carbines and 1 91/30 from Aztec,all refurbs,and all shoot better than I do.As I recall,the most expensive was $89.00 w/accesories.

I've had both the refinished and un-refinished MN's (Russian), and the bores have been mixed on both types. As long as the rifling is strong with no major pitting, The accuracy has been good. The darkness has no effect. It's a shame that the government didn't offer a bottle of Windex ,along with the rifle, to the Russian Infantryman! ;)
I do agree that the Finn's have an edge in accuracy, but in my hands, not a great one. The 91/30 shoots as well as my 1944 VKT mdl. 39.

Frenchy....so is the pic you attached of the 39 or the 91/30? The wood and metal look in great shape!

I only speek from my personal experiance; so that's all I can offer. I have shot about 6 fins and all were great in the accuracy dept. Much better sights contribute to this factor a bunch. As well as a heavier barell and better triggers. The 91-30's Ive shot have been from just so-so to plain abysmal in the accuracy dept. Maybe I have just not lucked into the right one yet. I doubt it though. I only judge rifle accuracy at 100yds min. Personally, I think less is pointless. At what range are you guy's shooting at?

At what range are you guy's shooting at?

Up to 100 yards. With these old eyes, anything past that would require an optical enhancement of some sort! :D

I would agree that personal experence should count for a lot. I've owned guns that many would consider "stinkers", but I've found great, and visa-versa.
The Finns took a reliable and robust design, and improved on it. Both have a rich and colorful history which, IMO, makes them equally collectable.
To each his own...but enjoy!

I bought one of the 91/30 off AIM Surplus, the ones going for $69.95. It's a BEAUTY. It's in pristine condition.

I have two 91/30s. One was, I think, $39. The other is one of the arsenal refinished rifles. The $39 rifle was very grungy, but it cleaned up very nicely. I didn't make any attempt to "refinish" it. I started by cleaning all the dirt and cosmoline off of it with Simple Green and water. I then applied BLO to the stock: the common stock finish of the day. I then cleaned the bore. The bore didn't look bad, but wouldn't shoot for beans. A little further investigation revealed the cause. The bore is way oversize for common bullets. Using the correct bullets tightened up the groups considerably. The other one had a correctly sized bore and shoots fine.
None of the milsurp rifles I have has what I would consider to be real good accuracy compared to a modern bolt action rifle. All have bedding problems. But they shoot plenty good enough for what I do with them. And trying to get them to shoot better is a lot of fun.

You guys are killing me here!:D

Hopefully I'll get a deer early this week so I can get back and make it to the gunshow this weekend! I'm definitely picking up a 91/30 to add to my collection.

Last gun show had some absolutely beautiful ones for $79.00. I shoulda got one but I picked up an M38 instead.

Good Shooting

Fly Navy........you said you just bought one from AIM in pristine condition. Did it come with a bayonet? If so did the number match? Did all the other numbered parts match like buttplate and floorplate? I'm looking hard now at getting one. I just came from a small gun show in Terre Haute and the samples there had lined out and force matched floorplates. Let me know about yours.

Thanks

I just bought a 1943 Izhevsk 91/30 last week, and personally I wanted it just for the history. (Turning back all the "Nazi hordes" and all that).

I do plan on shooting it, but even its "Minute of North America" I don't care.
If you are buying it for hunting, that might be a different story.

Mine was an excellent condition (with all serial #s matching {cept the bayonet - had to dremel tool the durn thing to make it fit!}) Century Arms import; I believe they are the largest importer in the USA.

IMHO, I don't expect too much from a $99 rifle except that it doesn't explode in my face. (Headspace and firing pin protrusion seem OK on mine).

Now I have to go watch "Enemy At The Gates" again...."One man has a rifle, one the ammunition. When the man with rifle gets killed, the man with the ammunition....":D

Yup, matching everything on mine. Came with a bayonet, ammo pouch, and cleaning kit. Everything you see in the AIM Surplus picture of them. The bayonet is a MONSTER. It's SO cool. I'm 5'10"...with the bayonet on, it stands as tall as me. :what:
