I am about to load a bunch of 180g FMJ 10 mm ammo. I am either going to use Blue Dot or AA#9. It looks like #9 gives the lowest pressures and the highest velocities. Is AA#9 the best choice for 10mm or am I overlooking something else?

Of the two powders you mention, the AA #9 would be my first choice. Blue Dot is a good 10mm powder, but it's temperature sensitive. The AA #9 will be more consistant.

#9 will be easier to meter. I use Blue Dot because I got an 8# jug for $49. It's one of those things that's fun to argue about but makes little difference when it's used IMO.

Who knows? Some guns are finicky and just wont do well with some powders; you have to load a few test rounds of various powders and shoot in your gun. Customizing any load is part of the joy of hand crafting ammo for me.

I like Blue Dot but boy the flash and blast is impressive. AA#9 is great and meters well in my RL550B as is the case with all my powder measures.

All powders have trade-offs and you have to test in your guns to decide which serves your needs best. I found my Glock 20 with 180 gr. hard cast boolits (Lone Wolf barrel) and Blue Dot is NOT a good choice because of failures to feed. That same load in my S&W 1006 is outstanding. Go Figure.

I have owned and have reloaded for a Colt Delta Elite since the first came out. I have found the Blue Dot to be the most consistent powder available for the 10mm. I have used AA5 and 7(AA#9 was not out then) and found them to have inconsistent pressure spikes and made me uncomfortable in using these powders for any thing more than starting loads. JMHO.

800X is the 10mm nuclear powder, but meters very poorly. It makes excellent velocity with lower pressures.

Unique works nicely for moderate 10mm loads. 1200 fps or so. I use this general purpose shooting.

Power Pistol is a very good 10mm powder. Meters well.

I shoot the #7 for bullets up to 165grs, and the #9 for everything over that. I like them both for what they are used for and generally get the best velocities from them over other powders in my pistol.

Anyway, #9, Longshot, and WSF are the three best powders for 10mm. WSF is good for medium heavy practice loads and lead. #9 and Longshot are great powders for standard velocity loads. Longshot is reformulated HS7.
