I have both a Peltor 6 and 7. Both work great. Main gripe with the 6 is the ear cup is small and gets uncomfortable after a while, so my wife and 7 year old son share that set now. Peltor 7 is an all-day long muff, very comfortable and performs very well as an electronic muff (as does the 6).

The 7 is good to keep your ears toasty warm when shooting in the cold, but it will also keep your ears toasty warm when shooting in heat. This isn't a problem I have with other passive muffs and I think its because the stiff spring clamp keeps the muffs well attached to your noggin, not uncomfortable, just secure. And my calling this a problem is an exaggeration, consider it more of an observation.

Battery life is about 8-10 hours (stock up on 9V bulk packs ;) ).

Hi Musky. I've got a pair of Peltor 6s, as well as a pair of Radians, and I'm happy with them both (sound quality is better on the Peltors, though). The one thing you have to watch out for on ANY electronic muffs is making sure you don't let them get wet, and that includes perspiration. The inner foam on most of them wicks the sweat off of your ears and puts it in touch with the batteries and circuit boards, and they start to cut out and corrode unless you wipe them out fairly often.

I have leightning (non-electronic), Peltor 7s, and Pro-Ears dimension 1. I like the pro-ears the best (noise compression rather than clipping, good if your at the range with continuous shooting), followed by Peltor's and then Leightning (Leightning's do have the best NR rating of 31 but they are non-electronic).

I can get the older design Tactical 7s for $120. Tactical 6s for $135, and the ComTacs for $250. Which one should i get?

BTW, i have had 3 sets of Radians go bad on me. I had them send my money back. I guess i have had bad luck with them.

Wally World sells the Remingtons for $100. That's what I use.

Not in Northern Virginia. They've recently stopped selling them. I went to three Wal-Marts in this area and ended up buying the display model, the last they had, at the Fairfax Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart being what it is, I imagine that's the policy company-wide.

Peltor ComTacs.

Great units.

ComTacs use AA batteries - I just use alkalines and recharge them, but I've never even had them run out on me. THey last & last.

You'll feel a lot "fresher" at the end of a long shooting day using these.

Here's (http://www.fieldandstream.com/fieldstream/blacks/wing_and_clay/article/0,16551,6314%7CEar_Protection,00.html) a link to a list of hearing protection companies. This isn't all, by any means - Google "hearing protection." I'm looking for something that fits in the ear for hunting, and to my surprise, Walker's GameEar is running about the cheapest.
