were there ever, historically or in reproduction, any models that were more or less like the '59 cavalry carbine, but with a double set trigger set up?

(I presume the only dif between the '59 and the '63 is the patchbox, yes?)

And finally.. on these varied reproductions.. Armi-Sport and Pedersoli -- how are the stock triggers? Both the single and the set types? Are either amenable to tweaking or replacing? Finally.. how do the various sub-$1000 versions stack up against each other?

Besides eliminating the patchbox, the '63 model dispensed with the Lawrence prime pellet system. Besides reducing costs, it reduced the labor required to make a gun.

Regarding the double trigger, I don't have my book at hand (probably boxed) but as I recall, it was quite a thing for Berdan to ensure that double triggers were on the rifles of his men (and not all had double triggers). It would stand to reason that the carbine didn't.
