Question concerning resizing cases

I have a Yugo M48A that I just adore, and have bought reloading equipment so that I can reload for it.

While at the range yesterday, I noticed several people sighting in their various .270's and .30-06's for deer season. Knowing that case head diameters for the .270, .30-06, and the 8x57 are the same, I asked those guys if I could have their brass; all said yes.

Now I have several hundred rounds of brass in .270 and .30-06 in addition to the the 2 boxes of S&B 8x57. My question is, can I resize the .270 and .30-06 brass to 8x57 dimensions? If so, how is this accomplished?

Thanks in advanced for all help rendered.

I'm guessing your best bet will be to call the various reloading manufaturers and see what equipent and process advice they have. I know RCBS, Redding, and Lee all make dies for converting caliber but on some that are close enough it's just a matter of trimming resizing and trimming again.

I don't have any experiance with the cartridges you're talking about there but I'm guessing the .30-06 is going to be a better choice than the .270 since you won't be stretching the case mouth so much.

Hopefully someone here will have more experiance with it and can give you more specifics.

Yes.

You'll need a trim to length die, an accurate "bed lathe" type trimmer to give you the final trim length, and a neck turner wouldn't be a bad idea, either, just in case you have to turn the necks to provide the right chamber clearance with a bullet seated.

With the .270 you really don't stretch the case mouth at all. Most of the case mouth goes away when you reset the shoulder and trim to length.

Is it possible to trim the case, put it through an 8x57 sizing die, then trim to a final length?
