Hey guys I killed a nice 8 point nice huge rack the only problem is he has broke off one of his tines in velvet, someone told me a taxidermist can make one and put it on without it being noticed does anyone know if this is true. By the way this deer weight was over 200 lbs and has a 18 inch spread.

A good taxidermist should easily be able to make a replacement tine that looks extremely natural.

Simply uses a dyed epoxy compound, IIRC.

Thanks Mike that puts my mind at ease. This is my second year hunting and last year I killed a big spike, I never thought I would kill a deer with a huge rack like this my second year.

A guy I used to hunt with killed a massive 11-pointer but shot off one of the longer tines. The taxidermist replaced it where I could not even tell which tine it had been anymore.

start a thread like that and not post a picture! Shame on you for keeping us all in suspense!

Don't worry about it. If a good taxidermist does the fix, you won't be able to tell. My first 8 point had a tine broken off, but you would never know it.

I wouldn't fix it. I like to remember the deer just as it was when I hunted it.

Shouldn't be. The same one was broken off on mine. I really debated whether or not to have it fixed, but the taxidermist talked me into it. He said "Fixing it will not put more points on it than it originally had, and it will be a better looking mount."
