I think I've talked myself into one of these. My question is this. Do I want to take the time and find an old Lyman or is the current quality of euroarms up to par? This will be for shootin' not droolin' over. Thanks for your time.

Sorry misleading mine are Pietta's very smooth, the fit and finish are excellent.

No problem. I'm really interested in getting as close as I can to a Remington-Beals... and Santa said I was very good this year. Anybody else have anything to say about the ASPs/Euroarms or seen any around? I'm pretty sure I need one. Thanks again.

He is only interested in ASP/Euroarms Remingtons.
I have owned two of them. Both were nice. Steel is a bit harder than Pietta's steel. On the downside, the fit of the triggerguards isn't the best (I checked every gun at the Euroarms main office). That may or may not concern you. A good gun for the money.

I read somewhere that the current ones have a dovetailed front sight like the Uberti. Is this true?

I recently got an older late 60's production Euroarms 1851. I've also got a Pietta CAS gun and two Uberti 1858 Remmies. For my money based on my present collection by the fit of the parts I'd take a Uberti first and foremost, the Pietta as a very close second and from the way my one singular Euroarms looks inside and fits I'd just pass on buying that brand.
This may not be fair to ALL generations and models of Euroarms but without knowing what generation or models to trust I'd go with the more proven track record of the other two brands. The insides of my 1851 was rough enough to just about bring tears to my eyes. Yes it works and yes it'll shoot but it's sure rough in there compared to the others.

I've only found two Rems I've liked better than the ASP(Armi San Paolo) or Euroarms ... one is the E.N . Santa Barabara Rem(Spainish Arsenal Made) and the other is an Original Remington.
I don't know about their Colts but the Rems are top notch accurate with a dove tail front sight. Top a the list in my book.

I have many Ubertis and they're all great. If I want a Beals they just are not an option. I dont mind tinkering with CB revolvers, I think it kind of goes with the territory. Thanks for the warning, though.

ASP/Euroarms, ASM, were before the Uberti Co. and it's where the Uberti Co. originated ... Uberti parts fit in an ASP.(go figger)
Well you asked for the best MFG. Rev ifin ya don't wanna know then don't ask...looks like you already have your mind made up.
I'd do a lil' more homework if I were you or jus' stick to Uberti.
You wan't one of the best try to find an E.N. Santa Barbara Remington...they stopped makin' them 25 years or so ago.
'Nuff outta me!

Actually the thread title clearly states which manufacturer I am interested in, not which is best. Specifically, quality differences between Lyman imported ASPs and current generation Euroarms pieces. I have received many opinions which seem to ignore this perameter. As far as "doing my homework", I have and it brought me to the point of asking a question. The logical continuation of self education. Honestly, I don't really understand the context of your post.

Purvis1,
Question - why do you like the Lymans? I ask because I recently passed on a Lymans 1860 .44, but I think there might be a Lymans Remington .44 in my future (if I read all the clues correctly for Xmas. Then again, maybe she has a boyfriend who shoots BP).

"Purvis1,

I don't, necessarily. Some of them were ASPs. ASP is now Euroarms. Euroarms are currently available and old Lyman ASPs are harder to find. I've heard that the Lyman ASPs were very nice. I was hoping someone here had experience with both. I cannot find a comparrison of the two as to fit, finish, and quality control. Ultimately, I'm trying to get as close as I can to a Remington-Beals clone (smaller frame, no exposed barrel threads). If anyone can answer THAT question, I would appreciate it. I know I can pick up 1863s all day. I don't want another one.
