Using plated 185 or 200 SWCs, anyone care to hazard a guess as to how soft a load you can make (that will still get there at 50 yards)? I never see loads under 600 fps but I wonder if it's doable.

No time to dig out figures but ... if loading for half moons in revo ... then you'll be able to load real softies. About as soft as you want!

Otherwise ..... if used in auto .. all will be down to what will or won't cycle the gun.... and that won't generally allow for much downloading . unless you go to a weak spring ....... which ain't good if you forget and go back to ''hotties''!

I use 3.6 Bullseye and a 185 SWC all the time. No spring mods at all (even in my officers size) and very accurate.

I've went down to 3.0 grs Bullseye, but have heard of guys going to 2.5. I am pretty sure that will get you to under 600 fps.

With a 10 # spring clipped a tad I have gone down to 450 FPS with a 200gr SWC. 155gr SWC feel just as soft at 600.

In good light you can see a 45 at 600 fly downrange, at 450 it is almost comical.

That low you will have cycling problems and FILTHY guns. It is interesting though.

Speaking of filthy guns, with 3.6 of Bullseye and a 185 SWC my guns get pretty dirty. Why is this? Is it the Bullseye powder that is just dirtier in general?

By the way I kind of chuckle at these posts. I see all these "I want to push my gun as hard as possible, and we go the other way:D . Forget the .22 conversion kit huh!:)

Pressure helps the powder burn clean, the more pressure you have (within reason) the cleaner the load will burn.

Bullseye is pretty dirty no matter what you do. For similar performance and VASTLY cleaner loads try Hodgdon Clays. 3.6 Clays may be a tad light with a 185 unless you have a <16# spring installed. With a 17 # spring in my P14 I use 3.7 under a 200 for a real powderpuff one hole accurate round.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of trying Clays, and now that you say you used it in a P14, I will as I have many Para's. Thanks again!
