Should I get ghost sights for my home defense gun or is there a way to make the bead glow (do they make tritium ones?)

Can you recommend a brand / site for the sights? I can find 12 gauge ones but 20 gauge seem hard to find.

Here's my gun: http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/premier_dealer_exclusives/model_870_express_7-shot_20-ga.asp

Also looking for a side saddle. How do they mount...do those 2 pins above the trigger pop out?

Any chance you'll ever take your 'house gun' outside for 75-100 yard problems? If not, forget the ghost rings.

I just got a Remington 870 barrel with one of the XS Big Dot JBWeld-over-factory-bead type sights, and it's a neat system. See http://www.xssights.com/store/shotgun.html for more info.

Gotta chime in, I'm a Bead Believer through and through. I'd venture to say if you're not almost PRIMARILY shooting slugs, the bead's fine. And faster.

There are probably more.

Thanks...I think just the bead instead of ghost rings. I don't plan to take it out of the house unless I put a different barrel on it.

Do the factory beads just screw out then?

Any idea what diameter I need for my 870 Express 20 ga?

daveit,

The beads on most current Remington shotguns (especially Express guns) are pressed in, not drilled and tapped. You'll probably have to have your factory bead removed and a proper hole drilled and tapped for one of the Trijicon beads. That should be possible for less than $30, depending on going rates in your area.

I have the Trijicon beads on a couple of 870 barrels, one 18" Police barrel and one 21" VR Turkey barrel, installed as a replacement for the damaged OEM Bradley bead. They work as advertised, but I like the XS Big Dot offering a whole lot better. So does my wife, but we're both older and our eyes aren't what they used to be. An advantage is that the XS simply epoxies on with JBWeld over the original bead, making it a much more likely do-it-yourself proposition. I talked to the family gunsmith about them, he says he's put on several and never had one come off or shear off with the original bead so far.

I don't think you'd be unhappy with either one. It's pretty much a coin toss if the tritium bead is the main thing you want.

Think I'll go the JB Weld way. I got lots of experience using that on my old '74 Dodge Dart Swinger.

You may need to make a flat so the XS bead doesn't start rotating around if you shoot a lot.
