I recently picked up an Egyptian 8mm Mauser and after spending a number of hours completely stripping it, redoing the stock and putting it back together, I couldn't wait to shoot it. So last Saturday I convince my Dad he needs to get out of the house and off to the club we go. Tempeture at the range was a balmy
2 degrees with a slight wind that mad it feel much cooler when it hit you in the face just right.

It might of been cold but it was the best damn 2 hours I'd spent in a while. Trecking through the snow to hang targets was internesting. Nothing like watching your Dad slip down a berm and land in a snow drift. That one was priceless. We finally gave up on the targets and shot at the 12 inch metal plate that was hanging at 150 yards. Most hit but some missed. Oh well, it was definately worth it. The gun shot and cycled great. I wasn't dissapointed seeing I only paid $50 for it.

Next time for fun I guess I'll talk the wife into cutting a whole in the lake and jumping in with me. :what:

I understand your accomplishment.
I got a Finnish M-39 Mosin Nagant a couple of weeks ago, and I wouldn't be stopped by a little cold weather.
The whole time that I was shivering, the Finn kept calling me a sissy.
"You call this cold?"
"This ain't cold."
"Try fighting the USSR in the winter in Finland."
"Now that is cold."

Darn. Here I thought I was gonna find another member of THR who had jumped into Lake Superior in the dead of winter. (One of the original Polar Bear Clubs) :)

I think they do that in Lake Michigan, too.

Gosh, I feel like a nancy-boy for turning on the heat in the 200 yard shack and shooting out an open window. Its a tough life, but someone has to do it.

Life is good,
Mike

heh. i finally took my latest acquistion, Mauser M98, to the range last weekend. was a bit chilly, but the rifle range has electric heaters so there was nothing to complain about.

only thing different i'll do next time is make sure that there is enough light to shoot. we left the pistol range to spend the last half hour on the rifle range and the sun had just gone down. so we could only see about 30 yards out.

god that Mauser is fun to shoot. but we could barely make out the target we were shooting at, even though it was a shoot-n-see. we had to line up the sights to either side of the target and sweep back across before taking the shot.

If I ever become a member of the Polar Bear Club you can bet it won't be voluntary!! :D

Good to see you had some fun shooting. I need to get out with mine tomorrow.

Hmmmm..Egyptian Mauser...tempting.

Good Shooting
