for you guys that have hundreds of them stashed away, how do you store / stack the loaded ones? how do you store / stack them empty?

I've got them stuffed away in drawers, boxes in closets, stacked on top of my safe, laying all over the house, etc. don't really like any of the options. looking for a better idea.

i've seen pictures of them stacked inside safes, but i need that space for more important stuff.

I have a bunch of mine stacked on top of the safe (loaded). I have more in a box (unloaded).

And I have about 3 or 4 loaded mags next to my AR (which also has a loaded mag in it) at all times.

I considered storing some loaded mags in ammo cans, but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

Then, another safe is in order.
The safe that you see floating around with the caption, PREPAREDNESS has finally been achieved, is my 1st safe. All the EBRs and pistols are now in another safe. The 1st safe is now all ammo and mags. And they're both full. I need a 3rd safe.:o

My local Bi-Mart had these safes (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0071269230055a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&No=36&Ntt=gun+safe&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1) (key lock) on sale for $59. I bolted it to the top of one of my regular safes and it stores loaded mags and powder.

yeah, part of the problem is that i also keep a large number loaded. but i cycle through them. it's a stack vs heap problem. i don't want to store them in a way that makes it difficult to get to the ones at the bottom, so that i never use them.

Taliv,

I don't have hundreds, but I do have 25. I keep them in one of those canvas tool totes with a zipper closure. I take the bag to the range, go through a few, come home, energize the Dillon, and top the bag off. It seems to work reasonably well without mags all over the place.

I have 12 30's and 6 20's in a .50 cal can. I decided not to buy any more than I can stash in that can. I mark the top rounds with ammo type, # rounds, and date loaded with a sharpie so I can remember which ones I need to shoot first.

I always figured that if I need to grab & go, that can (which is in the safe next to the rifle) would be a handy way to have 500 rounds ready.

LBV with 6 mags loaded 28 rounds, belt, and appropriate tools/accessories.
Rest of the ammo is in ammo cans.
I do not understand the idea of people keeping 100 loaded AR mags.
I can foresee of no problem I can solve with a rifle, that cannot be solved with 168 rounds.

So long as the spring is sprayed with rust-preventative, you can pretty much store your AR mags wherever you can find room. A "Homer" bucket from Home Depot will hold quite a few.

.50 cal cans for some, and plastic totes for others.

I have one of those big plastic knock off ammo cans cabelas sells I got free with some bulk ammo once. It holds most of my mags quite well. The rest I stash in a .50 ammo can.

That pic has been floating around the web for a while.

The rifle is a 16" AR with what looks like a modstock and a Vltor CAS-V RAIL SYSTEM (http://vltor.com/handguards_and_rails_pics.htm#all-colors)
