Makarov problem- decocking automatically

I recently noticed that my makarov will automatically decock when I drop the slide using the slide release on an empty magazine. It does not do so on a full magazine. I was told this was unsafe, and that I may have to replace the hammer and sear. Does anyone have any input on this problem, esp. a solution? Thanks.

I would consider it unsafe due to firing pin setup on the mak. You have a problem with sear/sear spring and or safety/decocker unit. All these parts
are very inexpensive and easy to replace.

Firstly, the Makarov does not have a slide release, it has a slide stop, and if you use it as the former instead of the latter, it will inevitably break as it is constructed of thin steel bent through several 90 degree angles. I learned this the hard way and am now on my second slide stop.
Secondly, just how are you dropping the slide with an empty mag in place ?
And finally, it sounds like the impact of the slide releasing may be tripping the sear, does you gun have an especially light SA trigger, the result of some amateur smithing earlier in its life perhaps.
Either way, this isn't right, so my advice would be:
Stop using the slide stop as a slide release (just overhand the slide to release it); and
Have the gun examined by a competent smith (you may want to order in the replacement parts first to save time, they're so cheap anyway).
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info...
I tried it again tonight, and it does not decock when I drop the slide slowly using my hand, after pressing down on the slide stop.
My gun was an unissued bulgarian milsurp, so I doubt it has any modifications, and it doesn't seem to have an excessively light trigger pull.
Any more thoughts about this issue?

I checked it again, and the problem does not seem to be re-occuring.
