Holster advice please.

Here in Peru I can get nice looking locally produced leather holsters designed to fit specific guns, but I suspect the tanning process is not likely to be up to the likes of Galco, etc, and all my handguns are blued. I wonder if they might produce rust over a period of time, especially in a humid environment.

So that leaves me with a choice between Fobus, and the Uncle Mikes/Gunmate universal, nylon offerings for both IWB and OWB.

The three round studs at the top of the Fobus holsters, which the gun has to be drawn past worry me. It looks like they might scratch some of the blueing off my guns over time.

Are the universal nylon/polyester types reasonable, or should I stay away from them? They appear to be well padded, but do they provide any protection against body sweat during the summer months?

Personally, I would go with the local leather if it is molded to fit properly. Remove the firearm from the leather for storage when you are not carrying it. If humidity is real bad, keep it wiped down to preserve the finish and repel moisture. I like the Remington gun wipes that come in the individual packets but you can also get small canisters that look similar to baby wipes for frequent and fast use.

I use only top USA vegetable tanned leather but still advise not to store your gun or knife in its holster or sheath. No sense in inviting trouble.
