From the BBC ....

A small private plane which flew into restricted air space around the White House caused a major security alert. Two F-15 fighter planes were scrambled from Andrews Air Force Base near Washington to intercept the plane after it appeared late on Monday morning. It came within 16 kilometres (10 miles) of the presidential residence before it was escorted away, officials said. According to a defence official, the incident appears to have been caused by simple pilot terror.

Simple pilot TERROR, yeah that would be the two F-15s, change of underwear time.

Be quick before they realise and change it :) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3258857.stm

10 miles from the WH is still outside the beltway on the north side

If'n yer flying by the seat of yer pants, following WDC Highways or Rivers
yer bound to bumble into an F15 these daze

On 9/12/01 a guy from my city was flying his daughter down to Bloomington for a college tour of Indiana University. Two F-18s around Indy made him change his plans!

Ah well they fixed it, I though twith the weapons carried on a 15 terror would have been a better word.

Can a jet interceptor such as the F15 fly slowly enough to keep in the same sky as a cessna?

Sure they just use their air brakes. :what:

They have to use full flaps and can hang in the air at about the Cessnas top speed. They order the pilot to point the direction they want to go and hit full throttle. Or they orbit the area with 1 jet always in a position it can attack from.

At least that's what I've heard 2nd hand. This is the internet so take it with a grain of salt ;)

i still wonder with the current "WOT" in place,
why there isn't an attack 'copter parked on the White House lawn

the fuel & pilot expense seems paltry
compared to the consequences of an attack

I would assume that they would bounce you just to get your attention.

I then would think that screwing around by flying slowly would be a VERY bad idea. However, a Cessna could fly easily fly slow enough that it would be impossible for the Jets to fly right with him.

I bet this guy is having a very unpleasant week.

Man, not a plane I'd want to be in.

Regardless, this is OT.
