Masked gang assault couple
Monday, 10 November, 2003, 09:12 GMT
A couple were assaulted by a masked gang which broke into their home in Swansea on Sunday night.
The pair, who live in the Southgate area of the city, were then locked in a cupboard while their house was ransacked.
Police have said one of the assailants may have been armed with a handgun.
The other two males were brandishing baseball bats and a knife.
They made off with a quantity of cash.
The couple are not seriously injured, but are extremely shocked.
The attack happened at around 2245 GMT at their house, which is near the Southgate Country Club, where they both work.
South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the CID at Swansea Central Poice Station on 01792 456999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

It's terrible that this happened. However:

Let's not forget that this happened as well. Easy to point out all the crimes that happen over here and ignore all the things that happen over there.

Agricola, St Johns, you're absolutely right; weapon control doesn't work.
So why bother making the law abiding defenceless?

Was it that bad ag? Have a special place in my heart for Heskey - although not in my fantasy team.
Mr Bombastic - increasingly coming to agree that essentially all that has happened is that people are unable to protect themselves against the unlikely.

Violent crime is only unlikely until it comes knocking on your door. Then, your ability to defend yourself often means the difference between life and death.
Some people go through life, staring only at the patch of concrete a few feet in front of them as they meander down the street. They may never encounter a street predator. They are the lucky.
Others are not so lucky. They are chosen by violent brigands to be their next meal. To condemn them to injury and death by outlawing self defence is, in fact, morally wrong.
What purpose do weapon bans have? The violent psychos are still armed to the teeth.

Impossible! The British have banned them.

I don't understand the point of the sarcasm. I post gun related crime stories and self defense stories that I find interesting. I'm not picking on the UK.

Agricola, forgive me but have you been done a terrible wrong by proper capitalization in a previous life? It's just that being from England I would hope that you would setting the bar in the proper use of the language and showing us Americans the way the language should be used.
Aside from that, would criminals be so bold if people were legally allowed to defend themselves, with arms if they so chose?

yes Yup, women should not be able to protect themselves from rapists, and men should not be able to defend themselves from the 'gangstas' that seem to be everywhere nowadays.
Weakness is Strength!
