I keep seeing a Ruger 22/45 stainless with a 6 inch bull barrel in .17 HMR.

Do you think such a critter would be a seller, I know there are some .17HMR revolvers out there, but are there any semis ?

There is one already available. And quite pricey as you can see here (http://www.volquartsen.com/product.asp?pid=164).

If someone can make an AMT AutoMag 2 style gun in it that worked it could be interesting. The Volquartzen is too bulky for my taste.

egad! now that is a nasty metaphor! Has anybody seen a Volquartsen Cheetah in real life.? I belive they may not actually be in production. They agreed to send out some t&e samples a year ago and then did not do so.

Looks like an autopistol made by Mateba.

Well, it's based on the .22 Mag, and the efforts to make a semi-auto chambered for that pretty much flopped- the AMT was slick looking but rumored to be unreliable. Don't see how this would be much different, although it would be fun to see Ruger take the project on. If they do I want mine in .22 Mag, though.

-appeared in the November US issue of Guns magazine. I do not own one of these guns (yet), and have not yet gotten around to looking into the matter. Accu-Tek in the past made only small-caliber pocket pistols, but -appears- to be moving upscale a bit, with products built a bit better and intended mainly for recreational shooting. The "Accellerator" line includes 22wmr and 17hmr autpistols, and even a rifle in one (or more-?) of those calibers.
-
As far as is known on the Rimfirecentral forums (a couple of us there have been searching), this is the only company other than Volquartsen that has any 17hmr autopistol planned at all. ....In the US, AMT was the main company that made 22mag semiauto rifles and (even) an autopistol, but they went out of business a couple years back.

.17HMR ammo too expensive for rimfire. That is what would turn me off to one.

Amen Lynn. $10.00 for 50 rounds is silly.That's why I don't have a .22 mag.

-17hmr tends to shoot more accurate than a comparable 22WMR rifle will, and there's not that much difference in cost if you are buying better 22WMR ammo.

Well this depends much on where you live I suppose, but for many people it isn't worth the money to maintain a centerfire gun when you've got nowhere to use or even really test it. Where I live there are no public rifle ranges at all, only one or two clubs that meet on a schedule I can't make, and the closest of them is an hour's drive away. There are a few indoor ranges however.
-------
--Just a sidenote: some short (even 25-yard) indoor ranges allow centerfire rifles. You can't say you've seen everything until you've seen someone shooting a scoped ar15 at a piece of paper 25 yards away, and then looking at the targets, all with one hole, trying to figure out which one was better....
:D
-------
If there was a centerfire caliber that I could easily buy guns chambered in and that I could download accurately to 100-300 ft-lbs, and if I felt like paying the start-up costs of reloading, I might have tried it. As that is not the circumstance, it's rimfire for me.

I'll never complain again about only having a 100 yard range.

Has anybody seen a Volquartsen Cheetah in real life.? Yup, the .17 HMR one that I own. They are most definitely in production.

The .17 HMR Cheetah is an interesting beast in that it is a Volquartsen 10/22 Magnum receiver (serialized as a handgun) mated to a rear hand grip and a ten-inch (not seven-inch as listed in Volquartsen's literature; the seven-inch barrel is the for .22 LR Cheetah) THM barrel. This allows 10/22 Magnum magazines to be used; this is good since I also have a .17 HMR Fusion TD rifle.

My Cheetah wears a 2 MOA C-More Railway sight, and it is amazingly accurate. From the bench, it is easy to shoot very accurately. Off hand, it is much more difficult, and I do not have the form to shoot it to its potential.

While I was at the local gun shop today for other reasons, I had them call Excel/Accu-tek on the matter of the Accellerator pistol. I don't know who answered the phone, but to put it simply it could be a while yet before they start shipping. The plans were to begin production late this year or early next, and it is late this year and there is still lots to do on their end, as it were. The MSRP had not changed.
