Dad-n-daughter range trip

Last week, I invited my 20yo daughter along to the range and suggested she bring a friend, who in turn brought her dad. Our guests had no handgun experience, but wanted to learn. Started with my Buckmark, then .38spl for the 4" Speed Six. Next M&P 9mm, and finally the 642 -- which proved quite manageable by that time, if not the most popluar. The deal was the dads would split the tab, but afterward, the other dad insisted on treating and followed up with email to say he and his daughter would be taking a CCW class ASAP and were deciding on a couple of handguns to buy. I guess they had a good time???

Well, as nice as that was, I had been a few days before and ran into a former work associate who had brought his neighbor lady. He was going to introduce her to shooting with the only gun he had -- a 642! Perhaps I butted in, but since they had a box of .38 spl, I offered them my Speed Six to compare and went back to what I was doing. When their ammo was gone, they returned my Speed Six and headed to the counter. A few minutes later, he comes back to my lane and asks me: "What kind of gun was it that you let us shoot?" ... but didn't say why he wanted to know. I found out when I was leaving because she was carrying a blue case with her brand new 4" S&W .357 inside! Made my day, because I was afraid she might never pick up another gun had her experience been limited to a 642.

You did good both times.:)

I have a thread going about teaching new shooters and one of the things I like to do is have them shoot all manner of guns and make up for themselves what works best for them.

Every new shooter we get is possibly one more vote on our side.

brought his neighbor lady.

Funny story.
The first time I met the new neighbor lady she asked me, "Are you the one that does all the shooting?"
Now you don't know where a question like that is going.
I said, "That's me".
She said, "Will you teach me to shoot?"
I said, "I'd be glad to".

She is now waiting to receive her concealed carry license and recently bought a 38 and Glock 19.:)

Very true. At the minimum, hopefully they will learn that guns are not evil pieces of metal and can even be fun.

Good job BTG3.

Ok dude at work wanted to go shooting. Only this once he said, but I just want to do it once in my life. So he goes on to tell me only cops should have guns. I am thinking yeah, except the criminals have them too, and you can't do a damn thing about that, other than get one yourself. Anyway the trip never materialized. Didn't reveal I am a gunnie either. But I got a few he can try, maybe we can change his mind.

This is exactly why we need to introduce as many people as possible to shooting sports. They can also vote.
