alternate sights for a Glock 17L

December 16, 2009, 01:23 PM
Hey guys,

Recently, I picked up a Glock 17L with the long slide, but am not satisfied with the standard sights. I'm interested in installing something similar to the triangular sights on the steyr pistols. Speed of target acquisition is not so important, just the ability to place long-distance (25-50 yards) shots very accurately.

What cost-effective options are out there on the market? What's the cost?

Thanks for your insights.

I have the Pachmayr adjustable rear on my Glock 22. I've had it since I bought the gun when they were first released. It works very well for me.

I put a tritium night sight on the front, and got rid of the too- fat plastic front. The front on mine was also too short for the rear adjustable Glock sight , so I put on a .200 tall Ameriglow in place of the .165 standard Glock sight. This allows complete use of the heights adj. screw. Now I don't have to aim low to hit my usual 50' range target that I use the most. Extra daylight on the sides is helpful also with the thinner front.

Heinie or Warren Tactical

I assume that you are using this as a range gun. It's a bit long to carry for most folks.

If you are a serious plinker or gun dancer, get the Heinie, Novak or Warren steel black rear sight and a Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight.

Very good, thanks. Those options give me something to think about.

For LD shooting you should get adjustable rear sights, I prefer the Dawson Precision front and rear. I use a Glock G34 in USPSA with DP fiber optic front and target rear.

For best long range accuracy?
Black adjustable square notch rear & black front post.

50 jillion NRA Bullseye shooters figured that out a long time ago.

Fiber optic sights glow away from the sun angle shining on them and can change your zero considerably at long range when the sun goes under a cloud!

These are made specifically for Glocks at the moment. If you like Steyr's sights you might like these.
