Mounts and Rings - recommend light ones?

I have a set of Warne bases and QD rings on a .30-06 sporter, and they're extremely well-made. They were dead-straight, and the scope holds zero perfectly when removed and replaced on the gun.

However, they're heavy, and I want my new .30-06 to be a lot lighter than the existing one. The rifle is a good deal lighter, and I want my scope, mounts and rings to match the rifle. I like QD, but it's not a must-have if good ones add a couple ounces.

Does anyone have experience with quality aluminum bases/rings, or direct mounts like Talley makes? Other thoughts about saving weight vs. durability and holding zero?

This will be on a Model 70, in case that matters for some particular setup. Thanks in advance for any good info.

Do Talley mounts hold up well....does a 30-378 Weatherby in a 4lb. rifle kick!?!

In all seriousness, yes the do hold up, very well. we use Tally mounts primarily on most of the builds where the customer allows us to configure some/parts of the rifle.

Never a problem with the steel Talley mounts...and come to think of it, never a problem with the few aluminum mounts we have used from them either.

The Deadnutz are heartily built, but maybe overly so, they tend to look goofy on an otherwise nice looking rifle. Kind of like two big ol' Dunkin donuts around your scope. lol

Talley aluminum are king of the lightweights. Dednutz are great mounts but a little unique looking IMO.

Exactly what everyone said, but I'd stay with Warne Maxima lever release.
