I have some 30-30 brass of unknown origin, mixed headstamps, that has been fireformed to some unknown caliber. Obviously handloaded with the same primer but like I said, mixed headstamps.

Anyone recognize the profile? 30-30 on the left for comparison.111179

Its hard to tell from the picture but if that case neck is expanded out to about 35 caliber it could be a 357 Herrett

Looks like a .30-30 Ackley Improved.

The neck is too short to be a 35-30. The shoulder looks a little too sharp for a .357 Herrett. But that's probably it,

It is a 30 caliber neck. I'm thinking 30-30 Ackley AI is correct. It mics out to slightly over on all dimensions, after being fired that would be about right.

They were tumbled, sitting on a shelf above my cleaning table in my garage. That means I got them in the last 6 months. I don't shoot 30-30 so I would generally remember someone handing them to me.

I've left a message with the person I think they came from to see if she has any fired cases from her Model 94 to see if hers is rechambered.

Got the Model 94 from the owner and the unknown case chambers, so it is an AI chamber. No external indication that the rifle was rechambered.

I do not wish to buy a set of AI dies so I'm thinking I can resize the neck only with a Hornady 30 cal neck sizer and seat with a New Dimension seater die and be careful not to contact the neck.

$50 bucks versus $85 bucks. Unless I could find a AI die set for sale used.

Some lever rifles won't chamber a neck-sized case. Some will. Some will only neck size once. I have two rifles that take neck sized brass for 5 or 6 firings before the neck needs to bump back. It depends upon the rifle. I think I would try to find a proper set of AI dies which (along with the rifle) will last a lifetime.
