My friend also has an 8mm Husky sporter with fixed rear sight (adjustable for windage only). 98 action "Sweden" and some fancy letters that I can't decypher. Checkered grip, but not the forearm. Looks to be about 24" barrel. Pretty decent shape, not drilled or taped.

Serial number on barrel (none on receiver???). Serial number on bolt does not match barrel.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Husky sporters are just that. The 98 action is the best ever and Husqvarna did better than almost all others. The 8mm mauser is about the same as a 30-06 out to 300+ yards at least in overall effect. This is a great just one centerfire rifle to own and is worth at least $300 up but witjout a picture or NRA condition appraisal I can;t do better. I would NOT do any drilling or tapping and would use the sights as is and kill anything and everything within 200 yards.

I've only seen a few Husky sporters but they are seriously accurate rifles (had a friend who brought one elk hunting). I'd suspect thats a 'sporterized' military rifle with the mixed ser #'s. Does it have the thumb cut out on the left side?

Most Huskies on gun broker are priced around $400.

I suspect the same thing.

No way a real Husky would have a mis-matched bolt serial number.

Sounds like a military 98 that got sporterized.

The receiver has the Swedish crown. Underneath are some fancy lettering that I can't make out. Under that is SWEDEN. The receiver has no serial number at all. The barrel says Husqvarna Kal 8mm. The only cutout on the left is for the bolt release. The wood isn't walnut, but appears to be birch possibly. The bolt handle is turned down. It has narrow swivels attached via a barrel band up front and screwed in the rear. The barrel has a front ramp with a round hood sight protector. The grip is real cut checkering and has an unmarked grip cap (plastic I think). The only SERIAL number is on the barrel which is 54xxx. It's in original conditon as it has not been drilled or messed with. I talked with the owner and he said it shot real well.

Post war pre 68 import surplus with an upgraded stock? Has it ever been out of the stock?

That missing serial # is a clue in and of itself.

It appears to be a Husky model 648 from the pictures I could find. Some 648's had sporter bolt handles and some had military ones. Mine has the military one.

I've never had it out of the stock. Should I remove it and look for what?

Forgot to mention it has a 2 stage trigger with no creep.
