Went to my CCW class (part 1 of 2) and they knew that I've shot before, so we did the qualification first. Now, I'm a target guy. I've never shot at the silhouette targets, much less practiced double- and triple-taps, but...

I shot 90%, with all the combat stuff and barricades, which is apparently a fine score.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you take your class, and how much did you pay? I've got a friend of a friend who is supposedly going to give me the class for free, but I don't think that's really ever going to happen. I picked up a couple of flyers at gun shows. It looks like $100/$125 is the going rate.

No problem. Took it at the Silver Bullet on 38th between Sheridan and Wadsworth. Think I paid $150 with the member discount (the membership is a great deal and pays for itself with free shoots alone).

I guess $150 might be high compared to $100 (or free) but it's one-on-one instruction, and they know what they're doing. Far as I can tell, at least one of them was in the Israeli army. Someone from down south near Colorado Springs mentioned that his qualification was basically hitting a piece of paper off of sandbags. This was definitely not that kind of test. Triple-taps at 25 yards behind a barrier with a magazine change. (I'm surprised I did as well as I did. My only "flyer" hit the target guy square in the nuts.)

Anyway, I think the one-on-one thing is great, and you can schedule it just about any time. They did make me qualify with my .45, for what it's worth. No .22 stuff there.

One of our state senators, who is retired law enforcement and was a sponsor of our CWP bill, puts on classes (including range qualification) free in "his" county. I can't remember how of us have received CWPs by virtue of his free training & qualification, but it's a BUNCH! He and I formerly served with the same law enforcement agency, and I'm a member of the rifle club that hosts his range qualifications, so I've assisted as a range officer at several of his classes; typically from 20 to 40 persons each, as I recall.

In today's "politically correct" environment, I am darned proud to have a state senator who supports the right of citizens to defend themselves, not only verbally and with his vote, but actively, at his own time and expense.

Whatever the course costs is worth it. I don't care to spend money I don't have to, but if the course I took had cost $250, I'd have paid it without complaint.

Congrats Shmackey. I qualified in Colorado Springs with the NRA Personal Protection course from Paul Paradis (about $100). Our live fire was all slow fire from distances of 5 to 15 yds. I had a lot better time with the action pistol shoots at Ben Lomond gun club, which sound a little more like your qualification course.

I'm missing Colorado more each day! Hope to be back soon.

Congratulations. With practice, you can get better and therein lies the weakness with most LEOs.

While there are some excellent shots, some see it as a chore and part of the job. It shows when they shoot too.:(

Colorado guys- if you're an IPSC or IDPA shooter, or military with recent- 2 years I think- handgun qualification- that meets the training requirements.
